WINNER:
The last time Pat Ward scored a win at the Brewerton Speedway was way back in July of 2006. Ward, of Genoa, N.Y., has been quick all season at the ‘D-Shaped Dirt Demon’ but luck never went his way. On Friday night all that changed.
Ward dominated the 35-lap DIRTcar Modified feature event earning him the $2,000 winner’s prize.
“Feels good to get here,” said Ward. “We been running good here all year and we just needed a couple breaks. Matt (Sheppard) was coming on there at the end but we had a good strong car.”
RACE RECAP:
Shawn Donath led laps 1-7: Donath took the lead at the green flag from his second starting position.
Ward leads laps 8-35: Ward took the lead from Donath on the low side of turns three and four.
QUOTES:
Pat Ward: “The car was good enough that I could go just about anywhere,” stated Ward. “We didn’t tighten the car up like we normally would have because we knew the track was going to stay tacky.”
Matt Sheppard: “You never know with this place (Brewerton) when you are going to get a win,” commented Sheppard. “I came here and won opening year and another year I didn’t win until mid-August. You just never know with place.”
CAUTIONS:
Lap 26 – Shawn Donath slows on the backstretch.
Lap 31 – Rob Hile spins on the front stretch after making contact with a yuke tire in turn four. The front end of his car is severely damaged.
Lap 33 – Larry Wight slows and stops in turn four. It was a possible MSD box issue.
