2 Worlds Collide into 1 Monster Event with $30,000 Possible to Win at "The Ultimate vs The Pittsburgher" in September! UFo Landing at Hesston in October!
(May 22, 2009) 2 major Super Late Model worlds have collided to form 1 monster event in 2009 in September and a new event will carry on a Pennsylvania fall tradition in October! With the official announcement of the closing of the Challenger Raceway, Miley Motor Sports has assumed Challenger's star event, "The Ultimate." The event will be integrated into Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway's star event, "The Pittsburgher," to form one mammoth event and will now offer $30,000 possible to win for UFo Super Late Models!
The Hesston Speedway and Oval Track Promotions have joined forces with the UFo Race Championship and will offer race teams and fans a new event that will continue the Challenger tradition in October. "Rumble by the Lake '09" featuring the "88 Special" at Hesston on October 8-9-10 will now become the tour's grand finale and determine the 2009 UFo Race Champion. This event will also mark the first-ever appearance of the UFo Race Championship at Hesston, as well as being the only scheduled appearance of the Super Late Models at the track this season.
"The Ultimate vs. The Pittsburgher" is slated to take place on September 17-18-19. The combination of the two events has allowed Miley Motor Sports to offer the biggest total winners' share ever for both the UFo Super Late Models and in the 30 year-history of PPMS. The pinnacle of the event will take place on Saturday Night, September 19 with both "The Pittsburgher" Area 51-lap feature and "The Ultimate" Area 51-lap feature being run on that night. Both features will pay $10,000 each to win, with a bonus of $10,000 being offered to any driver that can win both features, pushing the total feature payoff to $30,000 possible to win!
While twin feature event programs are common, "The Ultimate vs. The Pittsburgher" one will offer a unique twist. This event will essentially be run as two separate, complete racing programs wrapped into one UFo Super Late Model mega-event. Upon entry to the event, the race teams will draw for their qualifying race starting positions as they do at all UFo events. The first program will have the qualifying heats lined up traditionally by the draw results. The twist will be that the second program will use the same draw results, however they will be completely opposite in order from the first set of draw results. This first-ever format will allow all drivers an equal opportunity to qualify for both features, and a greater opportunity to win prize money! Open practice will take place on Thursday Night, September 17, with two complete sets of qualifying races on Friday Night, September 18 and all championship feature events on Saturday Night, September 19.
The Super Championships for the Semi-Late, E-mod and Cadet classes will also be relocated to this mammoth weekend at PPMS. Those classes will run championship distance feature events for bonus payoffs. The Semi-Lates & Cadets will run under multi-weight rules that allow virtually all cars in the area to be eligible and competitive, similar to the event's previous rules at Challenger. The E-mods will compete under the UEMS sanction. The track's Factory Stock & Young Guns will also be in competition during the weekend.
Retired Challenger promoters Jack and Donna Lentz will serve as the honorary Grand Marshalls of "The Ultimate vs. The Pittsburgher." Complete event details will be announced in phases in the upcoming weeks. "The Ultimate vs. The Pittsburgher" promises to be the most exciting and unique Super Late Model event ever!
The Hesston Speedway is under the new management of Oval Track Promotions, headed by Rick Jones in 2009. The new management team has been hard at work making improvements to the facility. The new "Rumble by the Lake '09-88 Special" event will replace the Challenger event on UFo schedule on October 8-9-10. "Rumble by the Lake '09 featuring the "88 Special" will be the biggest event ever in the history of the Hesston Speedway. The UFo Super Late Models will compete in an 88-lap championship feature paying $10,000 to the winner. Two other classes, to be announced at a future date, will participate in that event. The Hesston Speedway is an exciting 3/8 mile clay track located in the lake and mountain area of south central PA near Huntingdon. The speedway will host a special events schedule in 2009 on selected Saturday and Sunday nights, with the UFo Super Late Model grand finale in October.
