Paul Miller, Glenndon Forsythe and Bobby Beard Win Williams Grove Speedway Saturday Night Features.

Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania

Saturday night Williams Grove Speedway presented a three-division show of the Super Sportsman, 358 Sprint Cars and 358 Late Models. The Paul Miller won his first Super Sportsman feature of the season. In the 358 Sprint Cars Glenndon Forsythe used a late restart to claim the victory. In the 358 Late Models Bobby Beard won his second of the season.

Paul Miller began the 20-lap Tool Shed of America Super Sportsman feature in ninth position. By the end of the first lap Miller was racing in fifth. While Aaron Eichelberger set the pace as the race leader, Miller was on a steady march to the front.

By the end of lap two Miller had advanced to third. The following lap he passed second place driver Eric Eckert.

Miller quickly caught leader Eichelberger. On lap eight the race went under its first caution flag period. When the race was restarted Paul Miller passed Aaron Eichelberger on the back stretch.

Once in the lead Paul Miller drove away from the rest of the field. The last ten laps went caution-free allowing Miller’s No. 58 to stretch out the lead.

Paul Miller scored his fourth career feature win at Williams Grove Speedway by a straightaway distance over Aaron Eichelberger. Carmen Perigo Jr., Jason Fry and Bobby Hockenberry completed the top five finishers.

Besides claiming the first place money, Paul Miller claimed a $50 bonus posted by speedway owner Kathy Hughes. He also received a $50 gift card to the Coliseum entertainment complex for being a Hard Charger.

“We tried something different tonight that we were going to try at Port Royal. We left the set up in thinking we would give it a try. We’ve been struggling down low when it gets slick and I think it made a huge difference,” said Miller.

Aaron Eichelberger, Stan Wanner, Jason Fry and Russ Mitten won the heat races for the 36 Super Sportsman. Mike Ender and Jeremy Ginder claimed the two consolation wins.

Second-generation driver Chris Shuttlesworth started on the pole for the 20-lap Coliseum 358 Sprint Car feature. Shuttlesworth captured the lead on the start, followed by Matt Boland, Frankie Herr, Chad Criswell and Glenndon Forsythe.

Through the first ten-laps it was a two-car battle between Shuttlesworth and Boland. Boland made several attempts to gain the lead but was turned back. On lap 11 Boland went to the very bottom of turn four and passed Shuttlesworth for the number one position.

The caution flag came out on lap 13. Following the restart Glenndon Forsythe moved into third place behind Boland and Shuttlesworth.

The race would drastically change with three laps remaining. Coming out of turn four leader Mat Boland suddenly slowed. He regained power and held the lead into turn one. In the second turn Boland again slowed. This time he had a pack of five cars directly behind his back bumper. The cars scattered to avoid the slowing Boland. The Chad Criswell car became airborne and slammed into the outer fence. The race was stopped to check on Criswell. Criswell walked away from the wreck.

On the restart Forsythe’s No. 5T sprinted into the lead with Boland in second. One lap later Boland’s night came to a halt as his car came to a stop along the outer fencing.

Glenndon Forsythe led the final two laps scoring the victory in front of Scott Geesey, Frankie Herr, Eric Tomecek and Kyle Boland.

“We hung in there and survived,” said winner Forsythe. “I don’t know what was going on there with Matt. We just got lucky tonight.”

The 358 Sprint Car heats for the 28-car field went to Moody, Forsythe and Boland. Steve Fannasy captured the consolation victory.

Jake Lettich was the leader at the start of the 20-lap A.J.’s Truck and Trailer Center 358 Late Model feature. Roy Miller and Jared Miller were in pursuit of the leader.

Bobby Beard started the feature in seventh and was fourth by the end of the first lap. He took third on lap four and two laps later he captured second.

Beard made his bid for the lead following a lap seven caution. On lap 11 Beard went to the low lane in turn one. He slid the No. 81s across the track in front of Lettich. The move worked and Beard was in front as the field exited turn two.

The last half of the race the top trio of Beard, Lettich and Bernie Beard drove away from the field. The trio had a close battle over the final five laps. Beard maintained the lead to the finish winning by four lengths over Lettich, Bernie Beard, Mike Walls and Gene Knaub. The victory tied Bobby Beard for first with most career Williams Grove Speedway 358 Late Model feature wins.

Derrike Zirkle, Lettich and Knaub won the qualifying races for the 30 358 Late Models. D.J. Mease won the consolation.

“When it (track surface) gets black, that’s when I am capable of racing with the big motors,” said the winner.

The Williams Grove Speedway Saturday Night Series will return to action on May 30. The Super Sportsman, 358 Late Models and 305 Sprint Cars and Street Stocks will be in action that evening.
