HANDICAPPING SYSTEM BACK ON MAY 29 -- USAC JUNE 3
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- After four consecutive time trial races for
sprint cars the handicapping system will be back on Friday evening, May
29, at Williams Grove Speedway.
First it was the Tommy Classic followed by the All Stars, the World
of Outlaws and the Keystone Cup series, all of which are time trial
races. This week, however, there will be no time trials. Races will be
lined up according to each driver's earnings average with those who have
made more money on average lined up behind those who haven't done quite
as well.
The 358 c.i. sprint cars are also on the May 29 card and will also
be lined up according to the handicapping system.
The Grove's primary sprint car division has only been subject to
the earnings average system on one occasion this season. On April 17
Lance Dewease started the feature from the seventh position and went on
to win.
Dewease's earnings total for his victory in the 25-lap feature was
$3660.
For handicapped races in the sprint car division, money is paid to
the leader of each lap. Also, bonuses are offered based on starting
position.
If a driver wins after starting in positions 7-12 he will receive a
$500 bonus. If the winner started in positions 13-24 he will earn a
$1000 bonus in addition to the standard $3000 first place payoff.
Drivers likely to be eligible for bonus money include Sutliff Auto
Group point leader Todd Shaffer along with Dewease, Greg Hodnett, Cody
Darrah and Brian Leppo among others.
The first heat is scheduled to start at 8:00.
On Wednesday evening, June 3, the USAC sprint cars will make a
special appearance at Williams Grove following a lengthy absence.
This will be the only stop for the wingless sprint cars at the
Grove this season.
The ARDC midgets will also be on the card.
Qualifying is set to begin at 7:00.
