Weedsport , NY – Canandaigua Speedway cashed in its two week rain check this Saturday night , May 23rd for another exciting program of racing on a night in which we honored the men and women of the Armed Forces. The #9 Xtreme Lubricants ride of Matt Sheppard proved its dominance once more in the Big Block Modified feature , picking up the checkered flag for the third time this season.

Big Block Modifieds

Ron Cartwright Jr jumped off to an early lead at the drop of the green but with the #99b of Chuck Bower and #3 of Justin Hears nipping at his heels , Cartwright feverishly tried to hold the number one spot with every trip around the half miler. As the trio battled for positioning , Matt Sheppard quickly stole the show as he worked his way through the crowd rocketing off of turn 2 , taking prisoners with every circuit completed.

By lap 13 , Sheppard proved too much for the competition as he screamed by Haers and Cartwright. From there , Sheppard was simply put , untouchable as he distanced himself from the field with a 2.8 second lead.

Caution flags flew with ten laps to go as Gary Tomkins’ Rochester Americans/National Guard #84 loses its left rear tire washing away Sheppard’s three second lead. At the restart , Sheppard opts for the outside lane and when action resumes , he quickly regains the lead , driving into victory lane minutes later. Top Five: Matt Sheppard , Steve Paine , Justin Haers , Jeff Brownell Jr , and Derrick Podsiadlo.

Sportsman Modifieds

From a 12th place start to a checkered flag finish , there was no slowing down the #39k of Ryan Susice during Saturday night’s 30 lap Sportsman feature.

Pole sitter Greg Birosh would lose his 1st place seat during the opening lap as Tom Keys flew by the #29 before the lap’s completion. But before ten laps were entered into the books , attention quickly shifted to Susice after advancing eight spots with no intent of slowing down. Three laps later caution flags would fly after Kyle LaVare spins in turn three setting up a shootout between Susice and current leader , Keys on the restart.

Keys would surrender the lead when action resumed , as Susice’s screamed passed the #1s and never looked back. Despite Mark Chiddy and Steve Gray’s attempts to dethrone the leader , Susice continued to put distance between himself and the field , winning the feature landing himself in victory lane for the first time at Canandaigua Speedway. Top Five: Ryan Susice , Mark Chiddy , Steve Gray , Nick Guererri , and Kevin Ridley.

Pro Stocks

The Terrell’s Potato Chips Drivin’ Route 5 Pro Stock Series took to the stage for the first time this season at Canandaigua Speedway for a 15 lap feature in attempts to revitalize the Pro Stock division. Long time figure head in the Pro Stock arena , Pete Stefanski would start in finish the night in one spot… The number one spot!

As the circuits began to fall , the #2 of Stefanski couldn’t be touched as Andy Fisk and Bubba Burnell tried to reel in the leader. With five laps to go , Stefanski had accumulated a three second lead over the lead , ultimately ending the night in victory lane. Top Five: Pete Stefanski , Andy Fisk , Mike Martin , Bubba Burnell , and Mike Welch.

Street Stocks

The #00 of Mike Welch was no match for Bubba Burnell on the opening lap , as the 57b blasted off the corner sending Welch and Wayne Ellison to battle for second best.

As the feature crossed the halfway point , Ellison was knocking on Burnell’s back door as the pair went nose to tail into turns 1 and 2. Seconds later misfortune would strike for Ellison as he loses control in turn 3 bringing out the second caution of the night. On the single file restart , Burnell and Welch found themselves battling for first once more when action resumed. As the two go side by side into turn 4 with four laps to go , Burnell holds on just enough to get the checkered for his first win at Canandaigua Speedway. Top Five: Bubba Burnell , Mike Welch , Andy Fisk , Chris Fisher , and Nick Rizzo.

Pure Stox

Alex Morris goes three in a row this Saturday with yet another win at Canandaigua Speedway in the Pure Stox division. With his Morris clan cheering him on in their orange colors , the 36b uses an inside move around turn 2 on lap 2 to take the lead away from Eric Chapman. The feature would play out to Morris’ favor once again as he clearly set himself a part from the field with every circuits completion taking the checkered flag in the 12 lap feature.
