Bowersock, Rhoades, Gutman, Chandler and Reno Conquer Brushcreek

Posted by PR Director  |  05/26/09

(Peebles, Ohio ) The Peebles area was treated to a warm spring evening on Saturday May 23 for "Family Night" at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. As the warm sunny day faded into night, action heated up on the 1/3 mile speed plant, three miles south of Peebles, Ohio.

Wapakoneta, Ohio's Jerry Bowersock, in his first visit to "The Creek" this season, picked up the late model feature win. Winchester Ohio's Weasel Rhoades picked up his fourth consecutive modified feature win. Winchester, Ohio's John Gutman drove to his first legend feature win this season. Peeble's Ohio's Jim Chandler picked up his second crazy compact feature win of the season. While Lucasville, Ohio's Dan Reno picked up his first bomber feature win.

There was a delay in the action in late model heat number two, when contact from another car sent the 00 rocket of Brian Day up the hill, bouncing violently into the wall sending his car into the air before landing on his top then rolling back onto it's wheels. The race was red flagged and safety workers were quickly on the scene to check on Brian. He was alert when the safety workers got to him. Life Ambulance EMTs worked to stabilize him, before transporting him to Adams County Regional Medical Center to be checked out. An official report on Brian was unavailable at press time.

John "Weasel" Rhoades and "Jedi" Jerry Bowersock brought the late model feature field to the green, as the field shot into turn one the caution quickly waved when a pack of cars at the front of the field got together sending three cars spinning in turn one. The field was quickly lined back up and a second attempt was made to start the race, but the caution waved again when another group of cars got together before lap one was complete. After the third and final attempt to start the race double file wasn't successful, the field was lined up single file in an effort to get the race underway.

"Jedi" Bowersock inherited the pole when "Weasel" Rhoades dropped to the rear of the field as result of the damage his car suffered in one of the early cautions. The race officially got under way when new pole sitter Bowersock jumped out to the early lead over Butch Dowdy and Arnie Fields. Bowersock quickly began to put some distance between himself and the second place duo of Dowdy and Fields. Bowersock held the lead over the first few laps with Dowdy and Fields in pursuit of the front runner. The field was quickly bunched back up when the caution waved for the 19mc of Chris Kirker. On the restart, Bowersock jumped out to about a four car length lead over Fields, who was able to slide by Dowdy. The group would be bunched back up when another caution waved on the speedway for a car that went around in turn two. Once again Bowersock jumped out to the lead over Fields and Dowdy. Bowersock endured several caution to hold on for the win. Following Bowersock across the line were Arnie Fields, Butch Dowdy, Marty Huntley, and Dillon Huron rounding out the top five.

Mike Gross and Brad White brought the modified feature field to the green. As the field shot into turn one the caution quickly waved when a pair of cars in the middle of the pack went around in the turn. As the field was lined back up for a complete restart outside pole sitter Brad White experienced mechanical problems, rolling to a stop on the back stretch. Once White was pushed pit side, the outside row would move up a spot, giving John "Weasel" Rhoades the outside pole. Mike Gross and new outside pole sitter Weasel Rhoades brought the feature field to the green for the second attempt to get the race officially underway. The caution waved again when a pair of cars at the rear of the field went around before lap one was complete. The field was realigned and on the third attempt the feature was officially under way, with Gross taking the early lead with Rhoades along side. As the two battled, third place Dave Jamison looked on. Rhoades slide by Gross to take the top spot, before a caution waved for Rob Day who went around in turn four. On the restart, Rhoades put a couple car lengths between himself and Gross. The action was quickly slowed when the caution waved for Chris Shelton. On the restart, Rhoades once again put a couple car lengths between himself and Gross. Rhoades endured several more cautions to hold on for his fourth consecutive win. Following Rhoades across the line were Mike Gross, Dave Jamison, Mike Poe, and Justin Mullen rounding out the top five.

Pierce Foster and Tom Partin brought the legend feature field to the green. Partin jumped out to the early lead with fourth starting John Gutman in tow. Gutman pulled along side Partin on lap two, but wasn't able to complete the pass. One lap later Gutman slide by Partin to claim the top spot. Partin fought back pulling along side Gutman but couldn't complete the pass. Over the next few laps Gutman continued to hold the point with pressure from Partin. Gutman began to put a few car lengths between himself Partin. On lap ten, Gutman put the lapped car of Kevin Schoonover between himself and second running Partin. One lap later Partin got by Schoonover and now could once again set his eyes on front running Gutman. Partin was able to close the gap up slightly, but fell just short when the checkered flag waved. Following Gutman and Partin across the line were Matt Nichols, Pierce Foster, and Tim McCane rounding out the top five.

Rusty Demint and Bill Taylor brought the crazy compact feature to the green. Taylor jumped out to the early lead , followed closely by Jim Chandler, Rusty Demint. Rex Smith Jr., Randy Johnson and Eric Baker. Taylor held the point over the first lap, before Jim Chandler shot to the lead. Once in front Chandler put a couple car lengths between himself and Taylor, Randy Johnson, Rex Smith Jr., Rusty Demint and Eric Baker. As Chandler held a slight advantage, the action behind him was hot and heavy with five cars slicing and dicing for second. Chandler continued to hold the point with cars three and four wide behind him over the next few laps. Chandler held on to pick up the win. Following Chandler across the line were Rusty Demint, Bill Taylor, Randy Johnson, and Eric Baker rounding out the top five.

Mike Heisler and Todd Hickerson brought the bomber feature field to the green. At the drop of the green flag, Dan Reno shot to the lead. Once out front Reno continued to build on his lead until a caution waved at the half way point, when a car spun in turn four. On the restart, Reno shot out to a large lead and never looked back. Reno picked up the feature win followed by Todd Hickerson, David Francis, and Mike Heisler.
