FULL STORY WITH POINTS
SCHEETZ JR., RAIN AND ELECTRIC STORM WIN AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
FOUR FEATURES SET FOR SATURDAY, MAY 30, 7 P.M.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 24, 2009 . . . Young Tommy Scheetz Jr. was able to lead every lap and win the 30-lap NASCAR Troy Wink Motorsports 358 Modified stock car feature race at Grandview Speedway. Rain and an electric storm brought an halt to all other racing action.
Scheetz was able to drive his Jeff D’Ambrosio Dodge/TNT Auto Repairs sponsored No. 37x 358 modified to victory in a race that started on May 16th and was stopped by weather with just 8 laps completed. The final 22 laps were run on Saturday with Scheetz leading all of those laps to gain his first win of the season and the second of his career.
With the qualifying heat races completed and the late model stock cars on the track for their 20-lap feature an electric storm darkened the speedway. Once the lights were back on rain started to fall and again the lights went out as strong flashes of lightning dotted the skys. With rain forecasted to continue promoter Bruce Rogers pulled the plug on the show.
The 20-lap late model feature, two consolation races for the NASCAR modifieds and a 30-lap modified feature will be run first on Saturday, May 30th starting at 7 p.m. Once those events are completed a full show of late model and modified stock car racing will be presented giving attendees a four feature show for just $13 (adult ticket). Rain checks are not good from May 16th or May 23rd.
When the green fell for the remaining 22 laps that were presented as the first event of the night, Tommy Scheetz Jr. took over where he left off the previous week leading the field of 29 starters. At the 16th lap a multi car tangle closed the field up behind the leader but he was quick to build up a comfortable margin over second place Jon Kellner Sr.
At 20-laps three different multi car accidents again allowed the challengers to move closer to Scheetz with Kellner running a strong second.
The young Boyertown racer was able to hold command with Ray Swinehart making a strong bid with two laps to go moving to second and giving chase but had to settle for the number two spot.
Scheetz, Jr. picked up $2,200 for his win. Second was earned by Swinehart (Bechtelsville) with point leader Duane Howard (Oley) getting third, gaining 17 positions, followed by Jon Kellner Sr. (Lansdale) who had run second for much of the feature race. Fifth spot went to Jeff Strunk (Mohnton).
Before the rains and electrical storms came qualifying heats for the modifieds were won by Todd Marburger, rookie Kyle Follweiler, Jason Smythe and Scheetz Jr. The late model qualifiers went to Kyle Merkel, Brian Shuey and Chuck Schutz.
The Cornerstone Auto Sales of Fleetwood Hard Charger Award for the 358 Modifieds went to Duane Howard coming from 20th to finish 3rd in the feature race. The Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader Award went to Tommy Scheetz Jr. in the Modified feature.
The late model Memorial race scheduled for May 30th has now been rescheduled for June 20th.
The United States Auto Club wingless sprint cars will be in action on Tuesday, June 2nd with a special 7 p.m. starting time. The ARDC wingless midgets will also be featured.
Long time track photographer Don Marks will be remembered in a memorial race on June 6th sponsored by Main Racing Engines and Mavericks Motorcycle Club. Marks was the track photographer for more than 25 years before passing away in March, 2008. Racing for the 358 modifieds and late models will start at 7:30 p.m. The May 16th rained out late model feature will also be included as part of this event but will not carry lap sponsorship money. There will be lap sponsorship money paid for each feature plus all the qualifying events will pay $100 to win. There are also other special awards for both divisions.
