No. 20 Paul McMahan: PennLive’s Top 25 Sprint Car Drivers in the Country

By JEREMY ELLIOTT (Patriot News)

Paul McMahan

Accomplishments: McMahan won his first race in 1987 at Placerville Speedway (Calif.). Since then, he has won races with the now defunct Northern Auto Racing Club, All Star Circuit of Champions, the World of Outlaws GUMOUT Series — he was second in points in 2000 — and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series. McMahan owns 20 A-Main victories with the World of Outlaws and had his best points finish a year ago when he was third with four wins. The Elk Grove, Calif., native was sixth with the National Sprint Tour (2006).

Did you know: You don’t waltz into Williams Grove Speedway and beat up the locals. Well, unless you are McMahan. The California standout is the only non-World of Outlaws big series sanctioned driver to go into central Pennsylvania and defeat the regulars in a 410 winged Sprint Car event. McMahan drove the famous U2 to victory in August 2000 as a member of the World of Outlaws II Series, beating a strong local contingent at the Grove. The All Star Circuit of Champions are 0-for-28 at the historic facility.
