BUGS AND CUTDOWNS
Where did the Bugs and
Cutdowns ( a cross between a
stockcar and a sprint car)
get their start? God only
knows, I don't, but I assume
there was sprint car action
nearby by the looks of the
cars and their drivers. I'm
guessing eastern Pa and
nearby western New Jersey
maybe. Eventually they were
nearly everywhere (although
I don't remember ever seeing
any in action), north,
south, and west, but their
popularity was short lived
for reasons that have
escaped me. I hope someone
sets me straight on this
one.
Check out some of those
super fast ill handling
contraptions.
Wrightsville Pa's
Bobby Abel.
Leroy Felty.
Gene Goodling.
Bobby Gerhart.
Ralph Smith.
Jan Opperman.
Ollie Silva.
Dick Tobias.
Will Cagle.
Lynn Paxton.
Ray Dovel.
I'm sure that during the
turndown in the sprint car
popularity of the late
forties racers everywhere
used up their inventory of
open wheel parts making
cutdowns.
NEXT TIME: ASPHALT (give me
a couple of weeks on this
one, as I'm beginning to see
the bottom of the barrel).
