Can we be honest - is the 358 class really necessary?
If we wanted to be really honest about the longevity of modified racing in the northeast, take a look at what IMCA does. Keep the classes simple. Crate Modifieds across the board for weekend racing with no tour. Big Blocks for traveling series or special events. If a track wants to run Big Blocks, fine, but the 358s are redundant.
I’m not saying go as far as claimers, but, would long-time fans walk away from tracks with 27 crate modifieds taking the green as the main event, or, will they keep showing up to watch 12 358s hang on for survival, or perhaps 16 big blocks where you know it’s one of two guys that are going to win the feature.
I don’t pretend to know the solution, but maybe it’s time to take a step back so you can take two steps forward in the future.
