Track charging for ambulance coverage

Recommended Posts

I think it's fair. Ambulance service is very expensive.

The info people are going to want is if this private company is going to charge them for services if they use them or is everything covered?

It's sad the local ambulance can't or won't cover. But it's not surprising.

Five Mile did this last year.  The ambulance company the had been using didn't want to do it anymore. The new company was over twice as much.  I don't like paying the $2 but its worth it for an ambulance that can actually run and drive on the roads and actual EMTs.  The same cant be said for some places I have raced.

I think they are better off and so is the district by using a paid service. This way the people in the area aren't down an ambulance and personnel if something does happen.

Not even a question that everyone should think seriously about this one. I myself am living proof of how important an ambulance crew and a very good track EMT's are!! As last year at Fonda Speedway I had Cardiac Arrest , If not for the quick actions of the track Safety Crew and the ambulance I would not be telling this story!! I also recall that back in the 80's we paid $2 for the welder ! I would rather pay for the ambulance crew!! It should be in the minds of everyone, including the fans !! Please don't even hesitate on this one, not even a question!!! Just do it ! Trust me it's worth every penny !!! JMO.  Once again thank you Terry and crew I'm still racing because of them. I can never repay them for what they did, I am so greatfull ,   Bob K you are so way out of line on this one!!!

Since the fans & pit personel are covered by the same ins & medical services, are the fans going to have to pay the additional $2.00 for coverage?

If a fan gets hit with a clump of mud & goes to the medical services unit, who pays?

A $12.00 grandstand admission includes med services but $30.00 pit pass doesn't?

I know it's only a couple of bucks, & I'd pay it if necessary but a what point do we start paying "ala cart"

I would hope that nobody is complaining about the $2 increase. I HOPE what they are complaining about is whether or not the chosen ambulance service has enough experience in trauma care.

I, like a previous poster, am playing devil's advocate. I agree that an ambulance and EMT's should be at every track and it's the tracks responsibility to provide that service. And as a cost of doing business, that cost can be passed on to the customer. What got to me initially, was the wording that it was going to be "an extra $2.00 charge". I have not paid an extra charge for ambulance service in all the years of going to races at any track. Why now? If the admission prices went up (and I guess they have) and nothing tied the increase to the ambulance service, no one would be the wiser. We would blame it on inflation.

IMO, I would think that being generous with donations to the local volunteer ambulance people would go a long way in getting goodwill and community support for the race track.

What does give cause for concern is now there is a bill for the paid service provided, and perhaps a profit percentage can be added to that cost......like track tire deals, maybe banquet cost.....just sayin'. And a sharp promoter could be saying.... uhmmmmm how about the tow trucks.

Reddfox beat me to it. "ala cart"

No offence Bob but New York will not let just anyone have an ambulance service!!

In the past, at Accord, if the ambulance had to leave, we would wait for a second ambulance to arrive, and racing would continue.  With this new ambulance service, what will happen if the ambulance has to leave?  Where does a back-up ambulance come from, or would we have to wait for the ambulance to return?  Or, will there be TWO ambulances at the track every week?  Just asking!

Bob from my experience the Professional Ambulance Services are usually better equipped and trained then most local volunteer. Where you might just have a driver, a first responder, and an EMT on a volunteer service, your more likely to have no lower then an EMT and probably a paramedic on a paid service.  Though many volunteer ambulances are manned by people who work for the Professional Ambulance Services these days. The regulations for in New York state are pretty strict whether Professional or Volunteer, on what they must have no a days.

Cliff, like you, I know all to well how trained medical personel can make a real difference in a life or death situation at the track & how crucial timely response & treatment is a necessity. I'm not dismissing or taking this in jest... my point lies in where do differnciate between the pit personel having to pay the additional fee & the  spectators not. Maybe it would have been better to announce that pit admissions we going up by $2.00 due to increased costs... not saying it's about medical services.

Last season I went to the medical services at Albany Saratoga for an injury in the pits, I was asked to provide my medical ins info & later recieved a bill for services rendered by the med staff, the track ins, nor the speedway covered my visit to the ambulance.

Track insurance is a very murky area, if it takes an additional $2.00 to have trained medics there I have no problem with that but how many other entertainment venues have a surcharge for medical services protection? Do the Yankess? Jets? SPAC? College hockey? Local baseball?   Are they included in the admission prices... most often!

When ever we go to a public event we assume that we are to be provided some forms of protection, be it police, fire & med services.

I guess my question would be, how many people does Accord get in the pits every night? Times that by 2 and is all of that money being paid to the ambulance service? I hope that is the deal and does the ambulance service understand that each night they will receive a different amount and are responsible for everyone on the grounds including parking lot and spectators not pitside.

On second thought, they are probably being paid a set amount.
