Abraham22
I know all of us disagree on just about everything, but one thing we can all agree on is how great of a man Jack Johnson is. Unfortunately, Jack was hospitalized tonight. I'm unsure of any details, but his daughter was at the valley tonight and asked for prayers for her father. I know he's been going through a lot lately, and it seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Lets all send Jack and his family prayers. It sucks that terrible things happen to the nicest people. If anybody has any details on his condition, please let us know. Praying for the Johnson family tonight, I hope everybody does the same, they deserve it

dirttraxx
The Lape crash was also on lap 12 of the modified feature. Thoughts and prayers go out to both these GREAT Champions of The Track of Champions. Since Jack left racing it has taken something away from the sport I love. These are two of the very best to ever strap into a Modified.
Abraham22
I remember Jack had that bad wreck at Fonda. they took him to get checked out at the hospital and that's when they found the cancer in him. they thought they caught it in time, and at that point it looked like that crash actually saved him because if it wasn't for that they would of found it in time. But I guess he has Lou Gehrig's disease. it's just attacked him over the past few years. I heard a quote from Ronnie I believe in which he said "a man who once made magic with his hands, now can't even use them". it's a terrible disease and it's sucked to watch it attack jack the way it did. he's such a great man, he doesn't deserve this one bit. I know he was in really bad condition, and now that he's in intensive care, it doesn't sound good. we all certainly need to send him prayers

GasketCase
What you said in the original post here reminded me of the first time I interviewed the SDS guys a few years back. One of the questions I asked was "what driver did you admire most"? Almost every one of them listed Jack Johnson first and foremost. Some of those guys don't even like each other, but they all seem to love and respect The Jumper.
Custom Bob
Lou Gehrig's disease is a terrible disease. Local driver Bob Savoie lost his wife three years ago to the same disease. Your brain remains healthy while you slowly lose body muscle and functions. From what Bob told me, the Doctor told him that if the gene is in you, it can be triggered by a trauma to the body. This would explain when Jack had his crash and his cancer treatment it may have triggered it in him. It's been said in a prior post. It's not the same without the orange 12a on the track. Thoughts and Prayers and hoping for all the best for Jumper.

Spudman
I knew this day was coming, but I prayed for a miracle for Jack. I've lost 2 close friends to ALS. Please give all your loved ones a hug and remember every day because we all get caught up in the antics of this crazy world: "Life is precious so don't ever take anything for granted" God bless you Jack Johnson, and God Bless your friends and family as well. JoeT76
I have had the great pleasure of spending a bit of time with both Jack and RJ this year. I can tell you that I have met men of their caliber, but not many. And none recently. Jack has gone out of his way to ask me about my racing, offered advice, and suggestions. Jack friggen Johnson. Talking to me. Genuinely interested in what I am doing. It is a very humbling experience. Those two are both totally class acts, brilliant men, and all around good people.
Full Fender Fan
Wishing all the best to Jack Johnson and Dave Lape. Jack Johnson - a class act on and off the track. Some of the battles he and Brett Hearn had at Malta over the years, racing side by side for lap after lap without so much as a tap, were something I'll never forget. My most favorite memory of Jack Johnson was when he won the Coors 200 at Lebanon Valley in the #1 Phil's Chevrolet car. Jack was not a LV regular at the time but the crowd, including myself, went crazy when he took the lead. The crowd was even more loud when Jack took the checkers as the sun was setting. In all the years I have gone to Lebanon Valley, that was the loudest I had ever heard a crowd there. It was insane. As for Dave Lape, I hope the racing community rallies around him so he can get back to the track quickly. It would still be super great to see him get a feature win before the end of the season.
ChrisAkulis
Men like Jack Johnson, CD Coville, Dave Lape, Will Cagle, Merv Treichler.....those drivers were part of my upbringing. We always knew that when we towed North and raced the pink car against those guys, it was tough sledding. They defined a lot of my infatuation and respect for what good dirt track racing was all about. Not seeing Jack on the track anymore, or even in the trade papers for that matter has been heartbreaking. But life always points us to an inevitable conclusion. On behalf of any one of my friends or family that had the pleasure to watch and race against the orange 12A, thanks Jack for about 3 decades worth of great memories.

Wow, thanks Freisen Fan 1 for such a wonderful post about such an awesome man. I received a text message today about Jack and I cried. Man, he is such a wonderful person and was such a great driver. His family is a class act also. No one deserves this disease. I have sooooooooooo many memories, but sure would have loved many more. I just hope that he doesn't suffer any more!!! Jack you are and always will be my favourite driver and such a humble man which I really respect and will never forget. I will wear my 12A shirt with great pride and I will never forget him. GO RONNIE!!!!!!!!!!! Boy is he a true Johnson. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Also, I hope Dave Lape is okay. He was great also.
DougieRacer2
I have talked with Jack numerous times in the pits after he has won a race. He was always very humble. He would never brag but instead he would just have a smile on his face when discussing the race and what went on out on the track. Great driver and most of all he is a great man! I thank him for all he did for me over the years!Bill Nelson
dirttraxx
One thing about Jack, it didn't matter if you were a rookie or someone he was going to run nerf bar to nerf bar for the win, if they asked for advice he gave it to them. Many of todays best learned under the watchful eye of one of the very best. Jumpin Jack was a Champion both on and off the track. I am DAMN proud to wear the ORANGE...

I pray that he is peaceful. wasnt sure if that was 100% the reason he was there, i kind of figured it was but just figured something must have happened to rush him to the hospital and in intensive care like breathing , heart etc..... not just everyday pains and aches and weakness
BigBob7
I have to chime in here.......Jack & I became good friends back in 1960 when we were racing go karts @ Dodge City. I have known the family ever since then and Jack & Joe were always the best people in the game. They learned respect from Rollie, their father who was a great guy. Jack has always been down to earth & good to everyone he meets & in my opinion he is responsible for the majority of the fan base in the entire northeast. Without Jack Johnson, we wouldn't have as many racers as we have or as many fans to watch as we do. I pray that he pulls through this & have confidence that the Johnson fortitude will prevail Bob Weaver

There was just something about the 12A coming out of the pits that always made my racing hairs stand on end.
