WipeTheVisor
Brett said at the Penn Can drivers meeting that the tire money would increase the point fund for next year, that isn't a bad thing. I wonder how the I-88 promoters feel about Mr. Canine Harpell bashing their show here and on other forums when I-88 still has RoC races on their schedule. Talk about bad for your family's business!!!!
banana cognac
What is the politics with signing American Racer? That is the tire almost everyone chooses to run anyways, they are a better tire for those tracks period. NOthing against the Hoosiers. When he allowed either brand, that was no politics. To sign one exclusively is. How many guys at Deyo shows ran Hoosiers anyway? I'm not sure I've seen any.
skierpilot
I have always liked the idea of looser rules and no tire rules at all. All this tire rule stuff adds up to less teams traveling around to other tracks. If the promoter 's could just look past their sweetheart tire deals they and the fans would enjoy higher car counts. More car count's also put more money in the promoter's pockets.

To sign one exclusively is. How many guys at Deyo shows ran Hoosiers anyway? I'm not sure I've seen any. It has been proven that American Racer is the preferred tire when drivers have a choice. With that in mind, why not sign a tire deal with the manufacture that ALL of the drivers have been using anyway. Especially if it will boost the series point fund. Could it be that DIRT feels threatened by Mr. Deyo? He does have a lot of support from not only the drivers but from sponsors as well. His series will do nothing but get bigger. My only complaint would be that he could potentially get away from the "working mans series" and get into a deeper schedule. That would make it tougher for the low buck teams. Going to be an interesting offseason to see what happens with the ROC, DIRTcar, and the Super Series.

Bob Krummel
I hope these tires don't have to be stamped Deyo Super Series. Would a racer now have to have a set for each track he runs at and a set for the super series???? Look at the past history of tire rules, it could happen. This tire rule is the first step in taking the super series down a level and more like the other series, instead of going up a level and being better.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, Chris. It`s like the whole Deyo vs. Five Mile Pt. deal......it`s all been hyped so much, and argued about which is better, I`m losing interest in both . Might just stay home and milk the cows. Sometimes I think it`s easier and more entertaining to just become a casual fan, and sit there in the stands asking total strangers silly questions like " why do the cars in all the classes look the same?"

I'll tell ya what Chris, I started going to Skyline this year to support my daughter-in-law who races an open sportsman .There doesn't seem to be nearly the same drama that the other tracks have and it just has that FMP circa 1980's feel.
LittleJimmy'sPizza
If this is true, I can understand DirtCar feeling threatened. Any competition is taking money out of their pockets. Good competition makes someone look inferior/offer an inferior product. Is that how DirtCar feels? On the outside to the spectator/consumer, competition is good. In the inside between businesses, it's bad. Mr. Deyo offers an alternative to both drivers and fans...maybe track owners as well. To me it seems like a no strings attached for all parties. Who doesn't benefit from Mr. Deyo's shows? Does Dirtcar want a monopoly on race nights? The drivers have spoken by showing up to Brett's races. Will DirtCar further exploit drivers that support Mr. Deyo's events? We look forward to supporting more of Mr. Deyo's races next year. His product/service better fits our team than Dirt. Short Track Super Series
Just wanted to shed a little light on the American Racer deal. In our last three series races, we have had 150 cars compete (Accord, Penn Can, I-88). We had one entry on Hoosiers, 149 on American Racers. It has been overwhelmingly in favor of the Racers. So it only makes sense as a business to sign an agreement that will help us with our point fund, attendance bonuses, marketing support, etc. There will certainly not be a stamp exclusive for the series, we will outline compound options as we have in the past. We remain a very small business compared to other groups in the industry, any help we can attain is only going to benefit us going forward. As far as the DIRTcar article, I can only control my own business and make it the best that it can be. I always say I have four bosses to answer to 1) our racers/car owners/crew members 2) fans 3) our track operators and 4) our sponsors. If they remain happy, we our doing the right things. Good luck and enjoy wherever you are going racing this week.

ChrisAkulis
I just don't get the whole strong-arming tactic. If you want more cars and fans at your races, do a better job promoting and selling the benefits of your event. Don't threaten your potential customers. I don't see McDonald's threatening to raise their prices or refuse service to somebody who eats at Burger King a few times a year.... The whole Five Mile vs. Afton thing this weekend has been beaten to death. It is what it is. They had all year to come to some reasonable solution and for whatever reason chose not to. That's their prerogative, and apparently each side is content to lose out on that many more potential paying fans and race teams. I myself am not going to either event. I'm not going to support this ridiculous conflict from either side. There's enough other things to do in life that make me happy. It's just a shame that people are going to have this perception of two egos clashing over one race date, because both have done great things for the sport in the recent past. Best of luck to everyone this weekend, at least it isn't going to rain.....

pbutter16x
If I were you guys I would band together and stop DIRTcar they don't do anything for anyone out side of the top 12 tour guys. They don't pay well they allow the weekly purses to be a joke. They don't pay out on the Hoosier money they recieve. They are a corporate monster. They are ruining Modifieds not anything else. The competition between Harpell and Deyo is positive and Dirt is a snake. Think of it as the government vs. the people.

canine humungous
I would like to publically apologize to the promoters at I-88 Speedway for the post that I previously wrote on this website. I got swept up in back and forth banter about the upcoming weekend. You will see no more posts from me. I am flying up for The American Cup Weekend to watch one of my childhood favorites, Kenny Brightbill in both a modified and a SpdSTR. Once again, Ron and Jamie I apologize for my post, good luck with your weekend. Sincerely, Mal Harpell

Nick, I sometimes I wish I had never been a flagger and seen the other side... makes me pretty disgusted and disappointed.... Ignorance truly is bliss.. and sometimes I wish I was that ignorant fan I was as a kid when I didn't know what was really going on... I really enjoyed racing more back then! DirtCar take on NASCAR... I often think NASCAR is behind DirtCar.. remember how much a sham it used to be, then kind of out of the blue it got its finances in order and sponsorship moved in? That its best promoted races are across the street from a Nascar crown jewel track (World Finals), and across town essentially from its BIGGEST race (Volusia)... Nascar loves to mention its drivers competing in WoO events and stuff... wonder why that is.. they don't promote ANYTHING that doesn't have Nascar's best interest in mind.... I guess Im semi supporting the pissing match... I-88 to mean is an unreasonable trip from the mile given the timing of the racing there, and FMP doesnt interest me without the supernations to make that trip.. So Im headed off to see the King one last time live before he retires at Rolling Wheels... Just like Brewerton changing its Hurricane 100 from a big block open show to a Small Block show, Im not attending that this year... I enjoyed that race when guys like Pauch wandered in and you didnt know who would show up. Id love to attend Weedsport but that just isnt doable for me... Sean Dolan
One of the things I wonder about this situation is, does it make financial sense for a track like OCFS to stay Dirtcar sanctioned. I don't think they'd lose any cars due to home track bonus points as the only regular that runs the series is Billy V and they already said they aren't racing there next year. Eastern states is a SDS race but they ran that unsanctioned before and didn't have bad car counts ( even before DIRT's Bridgeport race rained out). I don't know the financials regarding the Deyo show but based on the car count and the packed stands if I ran middletown, I'd consider telling DIRT where to go and keep the Deyo show.
BillSmith
The big perk for being in DIRTcar is the SuperDIRT series races, which can be a potential moneymaker...if you are willing to give up all of the tire and gas money to DIRT, which funds the series point funds. A SuperDIRT series can be a big revenue stream...provided you aren't forced to run it on a rainy night with about 100 people in the stands, but that is a whole other story. There is nothing stopping tracks from directly signing their own tire deals with American Racer or Hoosier -- when I announced at Hagerstown, Hagerstown got significant monies towards its point fund because of its direct relationship with Hoosier. In principle, I like open tire rules. Tech is simple -- tire this wide, this diameter/circumference, boom, you know with a ruler if you are legal or illegal. Tire rules were supposed to save money, but it seems all it did was push lots of money into high tech shock development. In practice, when you have an open tire rule you tend to see one brand dominate (as per Brett's posting). The major potential problem with an open tire rule is teams thinking they might have to bring a lot of different compounds, which may make them spend money they really don't need to...but when you have a spec tire, you have to have good tech to make sure the tires haven't been tampered with. Towman
I believe that this is the best weekend for tracks say within a 1and 1/2 hr. drive from Syracuse to put on a great show, 1) you have more fans in the area than any other time of year. 2) you have more race cars in the area than any other time of tear. 3) you have many, many, many local race cars that just can't do the mile. 4) Give your local track a chance for many to see who have only heard of it. 5MP and I-88 I do believe will both be great events..I have chosen the one I will attend as I am sure most have. Weedsport was great and I am sure Brew House tonight will also, although I do wish it was still a BIG BLOCK show, and the Southern Tier this weekend will too!!!! IT'S ALL GOOD BE HAPPY and have a SAFE time this week.......
