doober
You guys act like the fanbase has stayed the same in the last 15 years as well. Facts are, super dirt week crowd isn't what it used to be. Be glad they still pay 50k and 175k total. the amount of campers at sdw this year was the most i've since the late 80's rode around sun. morning and the place was jammed with campers. even where it used to be barriers to keep campers out, the side streets etc were full. outside along the road to gate 11 was full. i would say this year was a good week for wrg. westracing01
Everybody bitches about the money, me included, yet the fans still come and the drivers still show up to race on the mile. It would seem to me that if the teams thought as poorly of the payout and cost/expense, risk/reward as the fans appear to then there wouldn't be anyone at the mile. And yet, 65+ cars took a shot at making the 200 (including the cars that showed up at The Wheels for the "Win and You're In" race.) So who pissed in who's cheerio's again? Are the teams as outraged as the people on this board or do we all just like to hear ourselves bitch?
chas71
I think they paid 4K to win the heats on Friday. Any one know what the purse is for the heats? I wouldn't have a problem with them adding the Friday $$$, Time Trial $$$ and Lap Money to the Sunday total.

Nick Austin
I'm no economics major, but.... Why does anyone even run this race anymore? The same reason people keep going to watch. It`s Syracuse.
Dirtmods55
Doesn't look bad to me. Its not my fault guys spend $50G's to go race, and if they finish 17th get $1000.
Mark Rinaldi
First Syracuse event I ever went to was in 1984; Jack Johnson won the race (125 laps) and got $42,000 cash and a new Mazda..... Fast forward to this year. The race is now 200 laps (actually longer with reds and late race cautions). The engines, tires, fuel, bodies, hotels, etc...are all AT LEAST double what they were in 1984.....and the winner gets $50,000. I'm no economics major, but.... Why does anyone even run this race anymore? Didn't they have more than 60 cars trying to get into the show?
Josh Bayko
wow! inflation .the purse actually is worth a whole lot less in todays money world than it was say 10 years ago.figuring it that way it has to be worth say at least 30 to 40% less in value than it used to be. Can't argue that point its a fact.! Just about every purse across racing has been the same for years now. It's not exclusive to the northeast. Can't argue that point either. I understand the point you are making, but I don't know that I completely agree with that. It is relatively easy to find major races or series that have increased significantly over the past 25 years -- the Knoxville Nationals, Freedom 76, Williams Grove National Open, standard WoO Sprint Car shows are all high-profile races or series outside the DIRT Modified sanction that have grown significantly over the past couple decades. I can counter this with the WoO and Lucas Oil (who actually pays a smidge less than the WoO in total purse) late model tours, who both use a purse structure set up by the NDRA in the early eighties. The Dream pays one of the most top heavy purses in all of racing, and hasn't chaged it's purse (with the exception of the Million, which was far an away the most top heavy purse in dirt racing history) since the beginning. The Kings Royal has pid the same purse for as long as I can remember. The USA Nationals has been the same since the beginning. The Show Me has actually gone down in purse from when Lucas took it over. The IMCA Supernationals has paid the same purse as long as I can rremember (and draws cars from all corners of the country). Point is, to act like SDW is the only purse that's been stagnant is naive at best.

They run it for the same reason that guys who race 30 minutes from home buy toters and stackers. For the same reason that the mini sprint guys i race with buy $30,000 cars and destroy 2 of them a year to race for $300 to win......we're all nuts!
Jake Spraker
Yes but Dirtcar allows their series to run for that purse. You act like they're running for peanuts. The SDS gets paid a very good purse and a ridiculously good point fund for a very regional tour. have you looked at it ? Yes, and it's comparable to other regional tours. WELL GO SPEND 200 G AND GO RACE THEN AND YOU START WORKING FOR WHAT YOU GOT PAID 30 YRS. AGO.
FBG
Try racing radio control cars. We have thousands invested, for zero cash payout! We even spend $1500 to go to Florida to win a plaque! Yes, all racers are nuts!
ccbcrewchief
FGB , We raced the rc 4 wheel offroad trucks for 4 years and made and ton of money. Went all over the country racing.once we won the big shows I built and sold many trucks. The only racing we ever made money at. Had full traveling sponsorship also .factory sponsorship also. Actually that was some of the most fun, but way competitive . these guys here wouldn't believe on a world scale how much is spent on that sport. Team drivers there are lots of them. Those trucks were worth 3,000 to 4,000 grand 10th scale. Nuts yea I agree.
