Every car that raced all week gets a chance to try to make the A main on Saturday. They start racing at 9:00 AM. Same thing at Knoxville, but they instituted a 2nd chance on a prelim night which is pretty exciting. No one is coming from the K main.
GrandStrunkRailroad
One thing they could do more of, camera view wise, is the drone. For me, that angle is awesome and I feel they only use it in spurts.

There were probably zero drivers there on the preliminary night that could really win the Saturday night feature. 😉 Rich Vogler skipped the 1987 Friday night preliminary at the Chili Bowl to run an indoor race at Rockford (Ill.), showed up at the Chili Bowl on Saturday night and won the race from 13th. mickey55
After sitting through the whole schlemeil and enjoying the majority of it, I come away with equating the Chili Bowl with what the 1960's generation call a "happening". Every form of short track level racing has or has had one. Boone, Knoxville, Syracuse Eldora, and back in the day Oswego's Classic and Langhorne's National Open. It's designed to be a spectacular event and the Chili Bowl doesn't fall short of that. I watched a lot of Midget shows over the summer of 2022, so a lot of the names were familiar. While I really don't have an opinion of most of the commentary on this subject in the forum, I just sat back and enjoyed it. I agreed with a lot of the journalism put forth here. Midget racing looks to have a very bright, albeit expensive, future with the current crop of stars. My one regret is that at my age I probably couldn't do more than a couple of days there, but I do think it would be great fun to actually be there. I actually, regardless of the late hour, found myself cheering on messers Buckwalter and McCreadie in the finale. Ever for all the negativity, it was still great to watch. Kudos to all.

And that doesn't matter, it doesn't degrade the quality of spectacle the event is, so I'm not sure why it needs to be defended so staunchly. The event is amazing even with 20-ish possible winners. I disagree.. there were a lot of good cars and drivers that went home early... Pretty much any car/driver combo in the C mains up is capable of winning that race. That said.. I could have probably circled atleast 75% of who those cars would be in atleast a C before the week started (and the other 25% are either guys that sneak up on us (Davis!) or good cars that just have $hit luck. One thing about the event, the talent always seem to creep its way up and is really show cased, even more so now that the quality of the field is better and better... even the rent a ride guys aren't showing up in leftover junk anymore... I believe Buckwalter was 10th, TMac 11th and they started next to last and last respectively... I think the track took a hit when it went to 55 laps for DRC... It transitions so quickly then locks down before its over, and as such, they're trying too hard to get it right.
WheelsUpHammerDown10
Buddy Kofoid and CJ Leary surely had crap luck and were considered cars with A Main/win potential. But how many more heavy hitters never made it to a C?

tygarl
Some names just off the top of my head that didn't make the A: Pursley, Bright, Kofoid, McDougal, Pittman, J Swanson, Cummins, Coons, Pickens. With the right luck throughout the week, all of those drivers any given year has a really good shot at a top five in the A on saturday night

I do not mind seeing the layout of the track and facility. That part is cool. But I absolutely hate that view under green flag. Looks like kids playing with matchbox cars in the sand to me
dan dan
When I am a the track and they get the drone out I get distracted and watch that waiting for it to run into something or fall out of the sky and get run over instead of watching racing. Havnt seen it happen yet but figure it's gotta someday.
