OSWEGO, N.Y. (October 12, 2019) — Joey Bonetti produced one of the most exciting moments of the 2019 edition of Super DIRT Week at Oswego Speedway on Saturday during one of the last chance showdown events for the 358 modified division. Bonetti was racing for position when he got tangled up in an incident that got his car airborne momentarily before coming back on down on all four wheels. Amazingly Bonetti was able to drive his car back to the work area for repairs.
“I was going down the backstretch and got underneath the #3 trying to make up a couple of spots,” said Bonetti. “The next thing I know my ass end was off the ground and I was tumbling down the backstretch”
Bonetti was completely unphased, waving off the safety and emergency crews so he could drive his car back to the pit area.
“I thought all I had was a left front flat at the time, but as soon as we changed that, and we started going down the backstretch I could feel the suspension clinking around in the rear end and I knew I had to pull it in.”
While Bonetti’s Super DIRT Week tumble ended any hopes of making the Salute to the Troops 150 on Saturday, but won the admiration of many fans on the backstretch that gave Bonetti a standing ovation as he drove away from the incident.
“Maybe I can pick up a sponsor or two and they can help me fix this damage.”
