Flach, Horton, Root and Smith Win Modified Last Chance Showdowns – DTD Exclusive

OSWEGO, NY – With the Salute To The Troops 150 and Billy Whittaker Cars 200 getting closer to post time, each division ran two Last Chance Qualifier events to solidify the field. The 358-Modifieds saw a pair of 15-lap events taking three drivers each, and the Super DIRTcar Series events went 20 laps a pair and entered two drivers out of both events.

Root went relatively unchallenged through the first 358-Modified LCQ, while Tyler Meeks was left to fend off a host of challengers. Erick Rudolph slipped by Meeks just before halfway, and Jimmy Phelps slipped by just after. Root went on to win uncontested with Rudolph comfortably in second, while Phelps fended off Michael Stanton Jr. for the third and final transfer spot.

Smith also felt little competition for the win in the second 358-Modified LCQ, but behind him was unpredictable at best. Kyle Inman was steadily in second, but a lap 10 yellow allowed the battle for third between Tommy Collins, Corey Barker, and Bobby Henry to catch up to him. Collins slipped by for second, and Barker went after Inman. With Smith winning, it was Collins in second and Inman narrowly edging Barker for the final qualifying position.

Flach passed Walters on the initial start of the first Super DIRTcar Series 20-lap LCQ, with Walters holding steady over Rudolph for the second and last qualifying spot. With five laps left, Walters slowed with apparent engine issues, handing over the runner up spot to Rudolph. Flach cruised to the win, while Rudolph kept Adam Pierson at bay to transfer to tomorrow’s 200-lap feature.

Henry and Rich Scagliotta seemed well set to take the two qualifying spots in the second Big Block LCQ, but on lap 10, Henry broke, and Scagliotta did the same on the restart. Gary Lindberg inherited the lead, but lost it to Horton on a restart with a handful of laps left. At the end of a wild 20 laps, it was Horton and Lindberg transferring over Kenny Tremont and Robbie Johnston.
