“Jammin” Jimmy Wells Set For Run For At Accord Speedway Modified Title

ACCORD, NY – The winter months are the time of the year when the race drivers and owners have a short window of opportunity to prepare for a new season of competition and seek out new sponsorship for the grueling summer months ahead. Coming off of a very solid 2017 racing season, New Paltz, New York driving star Jimmy Wells feels he has covered the bases as he prepares for the new season in racing. Wells, who earned the nickname “Jammin Jimmy” from his late father, is confident and feels well prepared to make a solid run at the 2018 Modified title at the Accord Speedway.

Wells certainly knows his way around the Accord real estate as he is a past champion at Accord, dominating the racing action in the Sportsman division in 2016 to the tune of ten victories and running away with the track title. Wells used the championship season as a launching pad into the Modified ranks for 2017. Wells came away with a very respectable season at Accord as he did battle with an extremely tough field of Modified entrants to come home in sixth place in the final point tallies while charging hard to a couple of feature wins during the campaign. Wells, while proud of his achievements in 2017, feels he can do better and has set as his goal the 2018 Modified title.

While refurbishing his equipment for the new season ahead, Wells landed additional sponsorship help from Upstate Auto in Germantown, New York. Upstate owner Marty Dibble has been a sponsor at Accord for some years now and is happy to jump on board to assist Wells in his quest for his next title.

In talking with Marty he explained, “I have followed Jimmy’s racing career for some time and he always gets the most out of his equipment. When he came to me and inquired about receiving some help for his racing endeavors, I felt that with the help I can give him and some good old-fashioned racing luck, Jimmy has a legitimate shot at reaching his goals.”

Wells also points out that family and friends have helped him continue is racing even at a time when he felt he might have to stop pursuing his goals. Wells credits his Uncle Mike Ricci for his great mentoring in teaching him the ins and outs of the racing game, Ricci himself being a multi-time champion at the Accord facility.

Wells will go to battle at Accord with a HigFab Chassied race car. While he raced in the past with a PMC race car, Wells explained the HigFab car suits him and his driving style to a T. Wells and crew assemble their own racing engines with additional help coming form Rich Bunora. Sponsorship on the race car comes from RYCOR HVAC, Direct Fleet Services, Antonio’s Pizza, the Arc of Ulster Greene, True Life Taxidermy and the aforementioned Upstate Auto whose phone number is: 518-537-2277.

Wells began his racing career at the age of four on flat track motorcycles. Racing around the country in local, regional and national events, Wells captured many wins and track championships through his early years. A bad wreck in 2007 at Volusia Speedway in Florida put Wells out of commission for an extended period of time with a broken neck and back. After a long period of rehabilitation Wells went back to the flat tracks and a few more injuries followed along with the wins. Finally his Father said enough is enough and purchased a sportsman car for him to race. His Father passed away a few weeks after the purchase of the car but his spirit is always with “Jammin Jimmy” whenever he takes to the speedway.

“Jammin” Jimmy Wells has always set the bar high for his racing endeavors. He has shown he has what it takes to continue in his transition to the top in racing and with family and friends and lady luck behind him each step of the way, all of us will continue to read about his rising star for many seasons to come.
