AFTON, NY – Afton Mortorsports Park (A.M.P.) on this past Sunday April 18 held round one of two test and tune session at the Fairgrounds oval.
Track Surface; Ron Ford track promoter, and his track crew were overjoyed on how the surface held up throughout the sun-drenched afternoon activities after a week full of rain. The track was tabletop smooth with just a bit of a ripple working up in turn one very late in the test session. Mr. Ford said we will get that little spot fixed up and it will be smooth, fast and multi-grooved for great side-by-side racing action. All the information coming out of the pits from the competitors agreed the the track surface was incredible and can’t wait to get that official green flag on Friday April 30.
Competitors; Over forty competitors showed to try their machines out on this day with all track divisions showing except for the Factory Stock division. One division not on the schedule the Four Cylinder Cars had one driver show to try out their car. The Ted’s Body Shop Crate 602 Sportsman division led the way with twenty-one folks coming out to try their car and check out the race surface. There were many competitors with updated equipment and some in new divisions setting up a good rookie crop of competition for the season. After this coming Friday night final test and tune session I will report on the rookie crop as I know a few still are not out yet.
What’s Next? Final test and tune this Friday night with pit gates opening at four and grandstands again will be free with a food donation to the local food bank. Face masks and social distancing will be in affect, and then April 30 the season will get underway with all divisions in competition. Classes consist of Modified (big & small block) Crate 602 Sportsman, Open Sportsman, Street Stock, Factory Stock and the Tobias Sling Shots. The Sling Shots will be running every other week.
Help Wanted; Fifty/fifty sellers and concession help are just a couple of the jobs that are available for race nights. If you would like to get involved with those or maybe a different job and get paid while meeting old and new friends call Ron Ford at 607.624.3772 or drop a line to firstname.lastname@example.org Get in and join the Fun Fast and Furious personnel.
Marketing Partners Opportunities and the VIP Tower Rentals; There still is time to get involved with partnering with the speedway and to showcase your business with signage in front of thousands of fans throughout the season and have your business announced nightly at the track. It will be put up on the (A.M.P.) Web page and included in the weekly program once that gets started. There are different size opportunities to get involved with some of the packages coming with a night in the VIP Tower. The sponsorship package could be monetary or in some cases in product that the track could use or ways to enhance or competitors or fans. Starting this season we are also opening up the VIP Tower to folks that would like to spend a night there with food and drink and also air conditioning on those hot summer nights. What a great way to celebrate your son or daughter’s birthday with a night in the tower and the birthday girl or boys name announced throughout the evening. Handing out the trophy to the feature winners that night would also be included. WOW!!! These would be available when not in use with one of our major sponsors. For this or marketing opportunities get with Ron Ford at one of the two ways above. You can also get hold of me at email@example.com and I would be more than glad to help you out.

In Closing; With the 2020 race-season in our rear view mirrors let all of us make the 2021-racing-season the year to enjoy being out and enjoy all the comerodery and forget the year gone by. It should be easy to appreciate what the staff and competitors have gone through with the investments they have made for all of us to enjoy. I for one as a great race fan will not take anything for granted when it comes to my love for this sport and hope it is never taken away from me again here in New York. I hope you all share this with me and come on out and check out round two of test and tune this Friday and for sure opening night on the 30th.
