Airborne Season Opener: Take Two

PLATTSBURGH, NY – The second attempt at the season opener will be this Saturday at 6 P.M. at Airborne Park Speedway, after rain forced cancellation of last weekend event. This weekend’s event will be Local Law Enforcement night presented by Day Bros. Boats & RV.
The 65th season opener will feature the Egglefield Ford 358-Modifieds, Poirier’s True Value Sportsman Modifieds, Ernie’s Discount Tools Super Stocks, Mini-Mods and Strictly Stocks. Regular distance events will be run for the 358-Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, Super Stocks, Mini-Mods and Strictly Stocks.

Divisions will draw a number to determine their starting position in their respective heat race. Feature lineups will be heads up based on heat race finishing order, as no handicap has been established at this point.

The 2017 358-Modified champion, Chris Raabe returns to defend his title. An impressive six-win season with twelve top five finishes in twelve attempts turned many heads and put the target on his back for this season. Steve Bernier will be the invading challenger for 2018. Bernier ran part-time last year and collected two wins. Todd Stone will also be looking to challenge for the top spot this year.

The Sportsman division appears wide open as Bucko Branham, Nick Heywood, Jamy Begor and Moïse Pagé all look to build off impressive 2017 seasons.

Brent Jarvis will look to defend his title in the Super Stock division, as Strictly Stock champion, Rolland Guay moves up to the division to contend for the championship.

Racing action gets underway at 6 P.M. with grandstands opening at 4 P.M. Admission prices for opening day are set at $12 for adults with kids ages 12 and under free of charge. Any law enforcement members who present identification at the main grandstand will also be admitted free of charge.
