Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour Returns To Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway This Saturday

NORTH AUGUST, ONT – When the Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour first began as a four race mini series back in 2017, one of the inaugural tracks that year was the Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway. This coming Saturday will mark the third visit for the series to the 4/10th’s oval and the first of two appearances this year.

After it’s Southern Tier swing a few weeks ago, the series has battled an unfortunate mix of poor weather and mechanical issues which began at Land Of Legends Raceway in Canandaigua, NY back on June 1st. the DMNT is hopeful it will finally get things up to speed this weekend.

Horseheads, NY native Bob Johnson will make the long five hour haul this Saturday looking to extend his points lead over Megan Ciglich of North Augusta, Ont in the Modified ranks while Brad Litzenberger will be a surprise entrant in the Nostalgia class, looking to remain atop the points chase there.

Some new faces are expected at Plattsburgh with Scott Gauthier of nearby Mooers, NY ready to make his debut in the Nostalgia class. There should be a good mix of cars from both north and south of the border, several may be last minute decisions once again, depending on weather.

The theme is “Throwback Night” and as they say at Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway, post time is 7 pm.

The DMNT is a unique brand of racing with two separate divisions, both of which pay homage to the Northeast Dirt Modifieds historical roots. The Nostalgia class consists mostly of authentic oem framed coupes and coaches, restored to their former glory featuring 6 cylinder, flat head and small block Chevy’s, Ford’s etc. The Modified class utilizes a more modern chassis such as a Bicknell, Teo, Troyer etc with steel Gremlin, Pinto, Coupe, Coach, Vega etc bodies to replicate the cars of the 70’s and early 80’s. Mud Bus style cars mounted on period correct 80’s chassis are also permitted to compete with a weight penalty. Engines are restricted to small blocks with a 2 barrel carburetor. The series features full on competitive racing and keeps track of points earned to ward the top point getter in each division for the DMNT Championship.
