PLATTSBURG, NY – The Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour saw a pair of fresh new faces in victory lane this past Saturday night here at the Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway.
Thomas Placey of Bradford, Vt and Scott Gauthier of nearby Mooers, NY would make their first ever appearances in the series a successful one, claiming the Modified and Nostalgia divisions respectively.
In what was the most competitive feature to date in the series, the 20 lap feature go would see Modified points leader Bob Johnson of Horseheads, NY jump out to the lead over pole sitter John Stanley of Kingston, Ont with Placey in tow. The three drivers would battle for the first half of the race before Placey would slowly start to make his move, first getting by Stanley and then getting under Johnson for the lead.
“I had to start putting my right rear in a different spot to get a little grip” Placey would explain in a post race interview ” It took a while to reel in the 2 and the 56 but it was fun, I had a lot of fun”
The races only caution would occur late when Stanley would get caught up with a lap car and suffer a mechanical failure. This would put Johnson back on the 22 car’s bumper for the restart but could not find a way around the leaf spring machine of Placey.
North Augusta, Ontario native Megan Ciglich would try to challenge Johnson over the last several laps but was unable to run the line she felt she would need.
“I thought I might have something on the bottom but with the slower cars down there it was difficult to try and consistently get any type of rhythm going” said Ciglich.
Another first time entrant this season, Pat Charland of Kemptville, Ont would finish fourth with Scott Gauthier placing fifth but claiming the win in the Nostalgia class.
