GRANBY, QUE – It was an historic night at Autodrome Granby friday as the track presented it’s first program under the Nascar sanction. It was the second race of the Superstar Sportsman series with a 60 lap feature awarding $3,000 to the winner with William Racine winning.
Sport Compact, Pro-Stock and Slingshot were on the card too.
In the 60 laps Sportsman feature, Christopher Cormier led the first few laps before Antoine Parent took the lead with a big slider. Parent is having one of his best race and led 30 laps before being passed in traffic by William Racine on lap 41. Racine led the 19 remaining laps while Modified drivers François Bernier and Martin Pelletier fought for a place on the podium. At the checkered flag, Bernier finished second and Pelletier took third.
In the Sport Compact division, Alexis Charbonneau had to work to win the 25 laps feature. Charbonneau battled for a good part of the race with Dominik Blais who finished second. Jérémie Goyette, defending champion, secured the third position after coming back from the tail of the field.
Bruno Cyr started the 2022 season on a good note with a win in the 25 laps Pro-Stock feature. Starting on the second row, he passed Pascal Payeur in lapped traffic on lap 22 and took the win. Payeur finished second while veteran Alain Brochu finished 3rd.
Slingshot SR were also on the card Friday night and it’s Cédric Tremblay in his 61 machine who won. He passed 9 years old Loïk Messier in the last part of the race to win the first feature of the year. Messier finished 2nd and Hugo Noiseux finished 3rd.
