Everything Small Engines Canadian Modified / UMP Challenge Series Debuts this Weekend

BRIGHTON, ONT – The newly formed Everything Small Engines Canadian Modified / UMP Challenge Series will kick off this weekend with a double header. To start its inaugural season drivers will travel to Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, ON and Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, ON.

The series was formed in the off season as a partnership between the promoters of the Brighton Speedway and Southern Ontario Motor Speedway to promote UMP style modified racing across the province. Fans will see the open 700 HP motor UMP Modifieds from Southern Ontario Motor Speedway on an 8” Hoosier Tire take on the 350HP GM Crate Motor on a 10” tire.

2019 will see the first official merger of the two classes in the Everything Small Engines Canadian Modified Challenge Series. The Series will consist of seven events, two at each home track and three other races that will take place on neutral ground at Humberstone Speedway, Merrittville Speedway and Ohsweken Speedway.

In recent years there has been testing between the two classes and it has proved to be a pretty even battle with cars from both tracks picking up victories and fairly even results between the two types. Both promoters agree that 2019 will be the first year that there will be a mix of different tracks and different surfaces and feel they can adjust if needed.

“Drivers from both tracks are excited to kick things off this weekend with back to back events at two tracks most of them have never raced at in the past” states Brighton Speedway promoter Mark Rinaldi. “It is a level playing field for all drivers and it will be interesting to see who can adapt the fastest”.

If a pair of $750 to win races wasn’t enough, adding extra incentive for drivers to make the trip this weekend is the chance to race against NASCAR and all around racing legend Kenny Schrader at both events. Schrader who is in Ontario for some promotional work for his sponsor Federated Auto Parts loves racing and couldn’t turn down the opportunity to race against local talent well in the area.

The weekends racing will kick off Sunday night at 6:30 PM at the New Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne Ontario. The 60th season opener will featuring DIRTcar Sportsman, Late Models, Thunder Stocks, Mini Stocks and Pro 4 Trucks accompanying the Everything Small Engines Canadian Modified / UMP Challenge Series that will feature a special driver entry.

From Port Colborne the drivers will make the short trip to Thorold, Ontario on the Victoria Day Monday to take on the Merrittville Speedway. The annual Monday Night Special will start at 7pm feature the Action Sprint Tour, DIRTcar Sportsman, Hoosier Stocks, V6 and School Bus Races.

Series title sponsor Everything Small Engines is located in Trenton, Ontario specializing in sales and service of Toro Lawn Mowers, Echo Power Equipment as well as others brands. In addition to his sponsorship, Jordan Richter of Everything Small Engines will be donating a Toro lawn mower as well as an Echo Chain Saw to be given out throughout the season.
