Saturday Night Brockville New Season Finally Begins

By Jim Clarke

BROCKVILLE, ON-Following an off-season that was far too quiet, you’d better be ready to rock n’ roll.

Everything is set and the wait is finally over. The promotional team at Brockville Ontario Speedway is prepared to launch its 2023 season – Saturday, May 13th – as Superior Cellular & Sound presents a full night of action at the popular clay oval on Temperance Lake Road.

The first green flag of the year will fly at 7:00 with the headline DIRTcar 358 and Sportsman-Modifieds sharing the spotlight with the Novice Sportsman, Suprenant Truck Shop Action Sprint Tour East Region kick-off, Mini Stock and Vintage Modifieds. Track owner/promoter says it has taken a lot of hard work, but everyone is excited to get the new schedule underway.

“I’ve never been able to understand how they call it an off-season,” said Paul Kirkland. “In many ways, our staff is often busier when we aren’t racing. There are schedules to co-ordinate, sponsorships to arrange, track maintenance and grandstand repairs to take care of. It can be a 24/7 proposition but we enjoy the opportunity to enhance our overall fan experience.”

As in previous seasons, Kirkland says fans can expect to see new drivers in each of the track’s weekly divisions, with reigning track champions Chris Raabe, Bobby Herrington and Ryan Poole returning for the 2023 season to defend their respective titles in the DIRTcar 358 Mod, Sportsman-Modified and 602 Crate Sprint Car fields. Ryan Arbuthnot – who captured the 2019 and 2021 Small Block honours is slated to return. Fan favourite and recent DIRTcar Hall of Fame inductee Danny O’Brien has teamed-up with local car owner Steve Polite and will run selected events at the hometown layout.

Track officials have also worked hard to add several special dates to this year’s line-up. For the first time since 2019, the Empire Super Sprint cars will return Saturday, June 24th, along with the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series for a Wednesday, August 2nd show.

Draper Doors presents a Topless Night for the 358 Modifieds and Sportsman-Mods Saturday, June 17th with a Run What Ya Brung Special – paying $4000.00 to win – presented by Trick Race Parts Saturday, July 8th.

Be sure to catch all the excitement of the 2023 schedule, starting with the Saturday, May 13th opener and follow www.brockvillespeedway.com or the track’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social media feeds for the latest track news and information.
