Tim Fuller Snags 4th Victory Of Season At Can-Am

By:  Tim Baltz

LAFARGEVILLE, NY – Victims Assistance Center and FABCO were on hand for Bike Safety Night at the Can Am Speedway this past Friday. The grandstands were packed with spectators as admission was $20 per car load on this night. The fans saw some great racing in all five divisions and some familiar faces made it to the winner’s circle once again.

Owen Nier was the early leader in the 12 lap Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman feature, over Keegan Nier and Paul DeRuyter. It was a battle all race long between the top three cars with Owen Nier in command, but Paul DeRuyter had other ideas. On lap 4 DeRuyter would take over the top spot, leaving Keegan and Owen Nier to battle for second and third. After being shut out of victory lane a week ago, Paul DeRuyter was not to be denied as he marched on, unchallenged, to his fourth win of the year. Owen Nier crossed in second over Keegan Nier, Joey Wilcox and Joe Trichilo.

The Panther Frameworx 602 Crate Sprints were set for a 15 lap event and Tucker Donath would pace the field early over Josh Verne Jr. and Logan Crisafulli. Verne had a fast car on this night and was able to get by for the lead on lap 4 with Logan Crisafulli and Jordan Bennett making up the top three. Verne showed his muscle as he drove away from the field as the laps clicked off. Behind him Jordan Bennett was on the move taking second from Logan Crisafulli, but was running out of time to catch the leader. On this night Josh Verne Jr. was determined as he ran to his 4th win of the year and second in a row. Jordan Bennett and Logan Crisafulli completed the top three finishers.

Tyler Meeks took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the 25 lap Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modified feature, with RJ Tressider, Andy Howard, Billy Dunn and Derek Webb completing the top five. Meeks had a great race car and appeared to have things well in hand but Billy Dunn had other plans. Dunn took the lead on lap 8 from Meeks as Tim Fuller charged to third from his 12th starting spot. Dunn continued to lead but Fuller was on the move as he took second from Meeks and was in pursuit of the leader. A quick yellow bunched up the field for a restart on lap 11. When the green flew it was Tim Fuller to the lead in turn two, using the inside lane over Dunn, Meeks, Lance Willix and RJ Tressider. Fuller started to open up a big lead as behind him Ryan Bartlett was on the move. Bartlett got to third and had a great battle with Billy Dunn, however Fuller was continuing to stretch out the lead as the laps clicked off. With two laps remaining Bartlett would take the runner up spot from Dunn, but a trip to victory lane would have to wait another week. Tim Fuller would drive away and score his 4th win of the year and put him in a tie with Danny O’Brien on the tracks Modified all time win list with 36 career wins, which is 4th all time. Bartlett would hold off Billy Dunn for second with Jordan McCreadie and Taylor Caprara completing the top five.

Ryan Shanahan has yet to win in the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman and on this night he had a fast car as he led the 20 lap event early, over Gavin Eisle and Mike Fowler. The lead would be short lived as Mike Fowler would take his turn at the front of the field, getting by for the top spot on lap 9 with Tyler Corcoran charging to second and Eisle completing the top three. Fowler was on a mission and searching for his first win of the year. On lap 13 problems took place with current point leader Dave Rogers as he and Tyler Stevenson made contact while battling for 6th, sending Rogers spinning in turn three. The points leader would end up thirteenth at the finish. On the restart Tyler Corcoran went to work as he got a big run on Mike Fowler to take over the lead heading into turn three. With that move Tyler Corcoran would go unchallenged in the final 4 laps as he scored his second win of the season and first since opening day, May 6th at Can Am. Mike Fowler collected his third runner up finish of the season, over Eric Nier, Ryan Shanahan and Gavin Eisle.

OJ White was in a fierce battle for the lead at the start of the 15 lap Marsha Gibbons TLC Real Estate Thundercar Feature. White led early but Joe Orvis Anthony St. Mary Jr. Jock Symonds, Francis White and Justin McIntyre, were all tied up in a six car battle for the lead. Francis White would break through all the traffic and take the lead bringing Orvis to second and Symonds to third. With 4 laps to go White and Orvis battled hard for the lead but Jock Symonds was there and took full advantage as he got by both drivers for the top spot. From there Jock Symonds would go on to win his third feature of the season in just his 5th start of 2022. Francis White, Joe Orvis, OJ White and Josh Verne Sr. completed the top five.
