Derek Webb Wins Second Feature Of Season At Can-Am

By Tim Baltz

LAFARGEVILLE, NY-Mother Nature has been quite kind to the Can Am Speedway in 2022 but this past Friday night she made a great attempt to wash out the evenings program. Despite the efforts, the track crew fought back and outlasted a major rain storm, to get the entire six-division show in the record books for the fans and title sponsor, North Star Real Estate and Property Management.

The FABCO DIRTcar Pro Stocks saw Justin White jump into the lead at the green flag with Tyler Bushey and Kevin Fetterly Jr. right there to challenge. On lap 5 Bushey was on the high side and used that lane to get by in a three wide pass attempt with Fetterly moving to second, Justin White, Bruno Richard and Eli Gilbert making up the top 5. Once in front Bushey was able to stabilize the gap between himself and Fetterly, while behind them White was in a battle with points leader Bruno Richard and Eli Gilbert. Over the final laps Tyler Bushey would go unchallenged and drive away to score his 2nd win of 2022. Kevin Fetterly Jr., Justin White, Bruno Richard and Eli Gilbert completed the top 5.

It was an exciting 15 lap Marsha Gibbons TLC Real Estate Thundercar feature. Chuck Monica was the early race leader with OJ White and Justin McIntyre close behind in the early laps. On lap 6 Monica still held a comfortable lead but OJ White was closing in fast, while behind them, Joe Orvis was on the move and looking to get out front and grab his 3rd win of the season. With the top three drivers dominating the event, Francis White was on the charge from the back of the field after suffering some problems with his transmission in the early laps. White was not able to get his car into gear on the start, but rebounded to 4th by half way and was on his way forward. With 5 laps to go Chuck Monica was still in front but Orvis and Francis White remained close, making it a three car battle for the lead. White slipped by both drivers on lap 11 and would have to hold off a last lap last corner charge by Joe Orvis. In the end Francis White finally would score his first win of the season by a half car length. Orvis settled for second over Chuck Monica, OJ White and Austin Smith.

The Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds were next and Jordan Kelly used a brave 3 wide move to take the lead on lap number 1 over Derek Webb and Scott Web. On lap 3 Derek Webb would take the lead away and put on a clinic in the opening laps. Webb had a strong car and pulld away from Kelly and the rest of the solid field. The top three had pulled away on the tackey surface making it very difficult for drivers like Ryan Bartlett and Billy Dunn to make a move, as the field started to spread out. By the halfway point Webb was in complete control and it appeared as if nobody could catch him. On lap 15 that all changed as Andy Howard broke while running in position number 6 and the caution flew. On the restart, Derek Webb was too much as he pulled away once again over Jordan Kelly and Scott Webb. Once in front, Derek Webb once again drove away while others just tried to hang on and get a good finish. Even with the late race caution, Derek Webb proved to be too much for the field on this night as he went on to score his 2nd DIRTcar 358 Modified win of the season. Jordan Kelly held on for 2nd over Scott Webb Ryan Bartlett and Jordan McCreadie.

The 20 lap Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman feature was ready for battle. Trevor Gibbons would get the lead early over Remington Hamm, Justin Gadbaw, Jessica Power and Josh Reome. With Rogers in front and pulling away from a quality field in the early laps, Remington Hamm remained in the runner up spot as Jessica Power made a big move to the front, taking the third spot away from Gadbaw and continue her pursuit of the top two drivers. At the half way point Rogers was still in control but the battle for the point lead heading into next week was also going on. Mike Fowler and Tyler Corcoran were within one position of each other on the race track as the two were separated by just three points coming into the night. Fowler would eventually move to 4th but needed something to happen to catch the top three. Over the final laps nobody had anything left for Rogers as he grabbed his second win of 2022.

The Panther Frameworks Crate Sprints saw Josh Verne Jr. dominate the entire 15 lap distance. Verne took the lead from his closest title rival Logan Crisafulli on lap 3. From there it was no contest as Verne drove away to score his 5th win of the season over Crisafulli and Ken Klinkowsky

Keegan Nier is still in the hunt for the track championship as he flexed his muscle in the early laps as he led the way over Owen Nier and Paul DeRuyter. Keegan was fast on this night and was looking to drive away from the field. On lap 7 Joey Wilcox spun, bringing out the only yellow of the event. On the final restart Keegan Nier was not to be denied as he scored his third win of the year over Owen Nier and Paul DeRuyter.

Next it will be final points and track championships will be on the line in all six divisions. Racing begins at 7pm.
