CANANDAIGUA, NY – Dave Marcuccilli added his name to the history books at Land of Legends Raceway as he won his first career Big Block Modified feature on Saturday night
“It was the biggest race ever for me so far” stated Marcuccilli in victory lane after being asked about his celebratory burnout in the infield. “It feels really great as we were struggling last year and this year we’ve improved”. “It is definitely a surprise to get a win this early”, Marcuccilli added.
The first Modified feature was rescheduled from July 18, and it was veteran Gil Tegg Jr leading from his pole position. Marcuccilli grabbed the lead from Tegg off an early race restart and would start to open -up his lead over Kyle Coffey. Tim Fuller, Erick Rudolph, Larry Wight, Justin Haers, and Alan Johnson all started to work their way up through the field, with some having issues. Haers would spin in turn one just past the halfway mark and Erick Rudolph would slow on the top side of turn four with six laps remaining. Marcuccilli would go on to earn his first career win in the Big Blocks, becoming the 103rd different Modified feature winner at the Land of Legends. Tim Fuller would finish in second and was followed to the line by Pat Ward and James Sweeting. 17th place starter Larry Wight finished fifth and 25th place starter Alan Johnson finished in sixth.
Kevin Ridley would win the Sportsman feature after a caution came out at the races’ halfway point. As the caution came out, the rain started to come down and when it got heavier, speedway management pulled the plug on the remaining portion of the racing program.
Jimmy Grant used a late-race pass of Josh Pangrazio to earn the win in the Street Stocks.
106 cars signed in pitside. The Modifieds and 305 Sprint Cars will be running double-features on Saturday, August 8. Darryl Ruggles and Alysha Bay earned qualifying heat wins in the 305 Sprints while Gil Tegg, Matt Sheppard, Tim Sears Jr, and Alan Johnson won the qualifying events for the Big Block Modifieds.
