Makin’ Tracks – One Sensational Race at Fulton – DTD Exclusive

By BILL FOLEY

Once in a while there is that event that simply gets my emotions rolling and the microphone becomes a tool for “sensationalism” as I simply go crazy.

One of those nights came on Saturday at the Fulton Speedway as it appeared that first year 358 driver Todd Root was going to do it. Or was he? There was Root leading and then Jordan McCreadie, then Root, while Billy Whitaker, and then, from 11th, Tim Sears came from no where and with just two laps to go the 83x was in front.

Yeh, the final stat shows a 1.7 second victory over a heartbroken Root and a 2.5 win over third place Larry Wight, but is wasn’t that close until the final lap. Whittaker ran fourth while Bobby Herrington continues to get better and better along with much more comfortable.

McCreadie was making tremendous moves going from fifth to third on the fifth lap restart and from fourth to second on the 11th lap green.

It was just freaking crazy, but it provided a tremendous race for not only the announcer, but the fans as well as the drivers.

With 25 small-blocks in the house maybe, just maybe, this experiment is going to work.
