McFadden Wins Jason Johnson Classic At Lake Ozark Speedway

By:  Brady Houser

ELDON, MO – James McFadden picked up his first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win in over three years on Saturday night by taking the checkered flag in the Jason Johnson Classic at the Lake Ozark Speedway.

Mcfadden and Brad Sweet lead the field to the green flag, with McFadden jumping to the early race lead while Donny Schatz put pressure on the Gio Scelzi machine for third in the early race going.

With no early race cautions, McFadden would build his lead through lapped traffic, and by lap 20 the lead was nearly half the track.  All that went away on lap 22 as McFadden would bobble, allowing Sweet to close the gap on the 9 machine.

The yellow flag would fly on lap 28 as Ian Madsen slowed with a right rear flat tire.  Madsen pulled pitside and would not return.

The green flag came back out momentarily with James McFadden holding the lead, but the green would be replaced with red after the Daryn Pittman machine rolled over.  Pittman would be able to make repairs and continue.

When the racing resumed, McFadden benefitted by an open race track and he was again able to build up a large lead, but the red flag would fly again on lap 38 as Daryn Pittman made contact with a slowing Gio Scelzi causing him to barrel roll.

Both drivers were okay.

With an open track and only 3 laps to go, James McFadden was able to get the jump on the restart and benefit from no lapped traffic in front of him, cruising to his first victory in three years in the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series.

McFadden was emotional in victory lane when joined by Jason’s family.  “What an honor to win for my friend Jason Johnson watching up above” said McFadden in Victory Lane. “The car was great, I couldn’t ask for a better race car and the crowd was unbelievable tonight.
