As we sit here in the warm Florida sunshine and anticipate the migration of all the northern race fans making their way south for some sun and racing we realize we are also seeing the changing of the guard in racing. Brett Deyo has been working on his changing ideas for the past 10 years and this year he is increasing his footprint once more through an agreement to promote special events at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., in 2023.
According to BD Motorsports LLC information the schedule at DIS will work hand and hand with Georgetown Speedway, the other track in Delaware under BD Motorsports promotion. Delaware International will join Georgetown as a member of the NASCAR Roots Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series for both the Modified and Crate 602 Sportsman divisions. NASCAR Roots Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series will also be a part of the other two tracks Deyo promotes, Fonda and Utica-Rome Speedways
We’ve known Brett Deyo for a long time and we always knew he was ambitious and had some very good ideas, not that we always agreed with them but we came to respect him and his ideas to improve the sport we love and he’s done that many times over. One of the keys to his success are the people that work for him and with him.
This year Brett Deyo is one of the Region 1, nominees for Promoter of the Year, Fonda Speedway, at the 50th annual RPM Workshop in Daytona Beach, February 13-14. Deyo will also do a workshop presentation on ticketing at the event. Other NYS promoter nominees are past winner, Lyle DeVore, Albany-Saratoga and Paul Cole, Land of Legends. Results will be announced at the RPM Workshop event next week.
After night one of the Deyo promotion Sunshine Swing at All-Tech Raceway in Florida, Stewart Friesen claimed the Modified win and Dylan Madsen claimed the 602 Crate Sportsman win. And the Friesen luck in the draw proved to run straight through the whole family, Stew drew the pole for the Mod feature and Jamie drew the pole for the Sportsman feature. Jamie’s luck ran out during the Sportsman feature but Stewart’s luck held on as his car began to smoke with ten laps to go, but the motor held out to the checker and he thanked Alton and Carole Palmer for the motor.
After having a remarkable performance in only his second time in a Late Model at the Sunshine Nationals in Florida in January, and finishing second in the opening night Pro Late Model feature, Demetrios Drellos of Queensbury was notified this week that he was declared the winner in his opening night feature after Michael Page was disqualified. Drellos said, “I don’t really like to get a win this way, but it’s a win.”
According to Chance Smith of Crate Racing USA the organization that sanctioned the event in conjunction with DIRTcar, Page’s tire samples did not clear the lab and they had just received the results from the tests this week. During the Sunshine Nationals event, Crate Racing USA sent samples from each of the feature winners each night.
Crate Racing USA is headquartered in East Aboga, Alabama and sanctions events for 604 and 602 Late Models, Crate Modifieds and Crate Street Stocks.
Palmer’s Service Center of Howes Cave will return this season and will present Saturday, July 1, Hall of Fame Night featuring the Thunder on the Thruway Series for Amsterdam Truck Center, Modifieds, $4000 to win, Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, $1500 to win, and Below Zero Ice Cream Pro Stocks, $1000 to win plus Montgomery County Office for Aging Limited Sportsman, Fonda Fair Four Cylinders and Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds. The event will be run in memory of Michael Keyser.
For those of us that may have been looking for answers to questions we had rattling around in our heads about the NASCAR sanction at Fonda and Utica-Rome. It’s not just us, we’ve talked with a few people that have questions so maybe the following will answer some of those questions.
Modifieds, Crate 602 Sportsman and Pro Stock divisions will be sanctioned by NASCAR as part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. Modifieds will be listed as Division 1 and competitors will be eligible for National, Regional, State/Provincial and Track Championships, Rookie of the Year honors and ranking nationally in the Top-100 drivers. Modified drivers will be required to obtain a NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Feature Division license.
Crate 602 Sportsman will be listed as Division II and drivers will be eligible for National, Regional and Track championships and ranking nationally in Top-100 drivers and will be required to obtain a NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Charger Division License.
Pro Stocks will be listed as Division III and will be eligible for National, Regional and Track championships and ranking nationally in the Top-100 drivers. Drivers will be required to obtain a NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Charger Division license.
