CORNWALL, ONT – It has been a very long and hard winter and everyone is anxious to go racing, this is the case of Cornwall Motor Speedway management who are very excited to open their doors this coming Sunday, May 19th for the season opener that will mark the 50th year of racing at the quarter mile track.
We start 2019 with a bang with all four local Mini-Series in action on the same racing card for the only time this summer. The Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals will share the spotlight with the always popular Race for the Cure Sportsman Series, it will also be the initial rounds for the new Weekend Warriors Series for both Pro-Stock and Mini-Stock.
Averaging 30 competitors last season, the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals Series will attract a similar field of cars as Luke Whitteker will try and defend his title winning over 4-time Loud and Dirty Brand Modified track champion Carey Terrance that is looking to become the first driver to win 5 titles in Cornwall. The first feature of the season will be 100 laps in distance and paying $4,000 to the winner.
Offering the largest car count in average at the speedway with 40 participants per each Race for the Cure Sportsman Series event, the numbers should match for 2019. Johnathon Ferguson is looking to capture a third title in a row in the series and Shane Pecore is looking to defend the Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman division championship. Just like the modifieds, the distance will be 100 laps and the winner will receive a nice $2,000 for his win!
A new Mini-Series called Weekend Warriors presented by JLB Cooling and Heating will make their debut this Sunday evening for the Pro-Stock, The top 3 in this series will share more than $2,600 in prizes and money including the points funds, Hoosier tires and a car starter courtesy of Qualitek. This should attract some invaders to participate in this 3-race series. The feature will 30 laps in distance. CD Beauchamp will look to defend the Alexandria Home Hardware Track title, he already won at Airborne in late April.
Just like in Pro-Stock, the Weekend Warriors Mini-Stock Series presented by CJs Auto will make her debut as well with the first of three rounds, a 20-lap feature will be on the card for the first race. Again it should attract a number of drivers from other local track to race in this series. The Tracy Wheeler Assist2Sell Championship should be pretty interesting as a lot of teams showed some interests in participating.
The pit gates will open at 3pm to welcome the drivers, the admission cost will be $40. In general admission, doors will open at 4:30pm with a price of $30 for adults, $20 for senior 65 years plus and kids 16 years and under, it will cost $2 to access the grandstands. Time trials are scheduled for 6pm with heat races starting at 6:30pm.
