Joseph Watson Take DIS Checkers

DELMAR, DE – With rain soaking the Delaware International Speedway grounds at the start of the evening’s Saturday night program, track owner, Charles Cathell, had all hands-on deck to get the facilities prepared. With support from the track crews, drivers, and fans, all events were able to take place with only a minor delay.

Joseph Watson notched a second win to his belt for the 2020 season in the Big Block Modified event for the Blue Hen Racing team.

HJ Bunting jumped out to an early lead from the pole starting position with Joseph and Jordan Watson vying for the second position.

It was track invader, Richie Pratt, Jr., who was on the move, entering the top five from his seventh position in only three laps.

On a lap six restart, the Watson brothers continued to battle for the second position with Kevin Sockriter and Pratt dueling side by side for fourth.

A lap 12 restart would regroup the field with Joseph Watson diving to the bottom of race leader, Bunting, to take over the top position.

Pratt would keep the pressure on Bunting and Joseph Watson, with Jordan Watson and Carson Wright racing door to door for the fourth position for the remainder of the event.

A single-file restart with two laps remaining would allow Pratt to have one last chance, but he could not overcome the strength of Joseph Watson. Pratt, Bunting, Jordan Watson, and Wright rounded out the top five.

Tim Tanner topped the Mid Atlantic Sprint Series after swapping positions with Jeff Geiges and Dave Brown for the duration of the feature event. Eddie Wagner and CJ Faison rounded out the top five.

James Hill survived the challenges from Adam White and Greg Humlhanz to earn his first win of the season in the AC Delco Crate Modified feature event. Humlhanz and White made contact in the early stages of the event while competing for the second event. White salvaged a second-place finish with a broken shock, while Humlhanz had to charge back to a disappointing 8th place finish.

David Jenkins, Bryan Brobst, and Dwayne Crockett completed the top five.

Derek Magee led wire-to-wire to etch another RUSH Late Model victory to his name. Magee held off the hard charging Billy Thompson and Super Late Model moonlighters, Amanda Whaley and Mark Pettyjohn. Joe Warren rounded out the top five.

Defending Modified Lite champion, Ray Gulliver continued his tear of a season, holding off Jason Musser, Tim White, Jerry Barker, and Jacob King in the 15-lap feature event.

This Saturday, the speedway will memorialize the late Jake Memorial  with a 25-lap $2,685 to win Big Block Modified event and 15-lap $850 to win for AC Delco Crate Modifieds.
