NORTH AUGUSTA, ONT – To quote the old song “Give The People What They Want” This season the DMNT will be once again running the new Unlimited division created in 2020 as a result of the Covid 19 situation.
“With a good portion of the series cars located in Canada, it was split in half in the US where the majority of the races were held. We ended up losing a good chunk of the schedule anyway but we had to bring in cars that were not compliant with our strict rules” explains Director Jeff Ciglich. “And since we wanted to attract cars from all over NY State and Pennsylvania we couldn’t really align with one particular Club or Series. We decided since we already had two divisions of tight rules, we didn’t need a third. So we just opened it up. I have to admit it’s a much easier sell to attract racers now and so far the response has been positive. Our best showing for the class was at Thunder Mountain last year and that race in particular sold the concept to a gentleman from the Brewerton, NY area who will now be putting his big block engine into an old Gremlin style 80’s machine”
In addition there are several other cars being built throughout NY State and several teams looking to come over from other series.
“One of the big things for some of these guys is that now they can create something unique and see how it does against somebody else’s creation” explained Ciglich. “Big block? 358? Stroker? Gas? Methanol? Carb? Injection? Sprint Car tires? Drag rubber? Use up some old parts on the shelf? There are no rules or restrictions and everybody knows that going in, so we believe this is going to be successful. And if it’s too expensive or too fast, then we of course have our 28 page rule book for our Modified and Nostalgia classes”
As of this writing the 2021 schedule is still under construction but there are already 14 shows on the Tour.
