Brett Hearn and Billy Decker stopped the clock the quickest as the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds qualified for Friday and Saturday night heat race line-ups for the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
Thursday saw a brief hot lap session and the drivers turned it right around for time trials.
Hearn’s 15.674 was the quickest time of the 42 cars entered.
When asked if to took some pressure off, Hearn took a deep breath and said,”You have no idea.”
He explained, ”There is no other track where time trials are as important as they are here. Fast time means it is all good and that’s good for me.”
Reflecting on last year he said, ”I broke a rear end and it wiped out my first time. I started in the back of both heat races and the track is so fast here and it is really tough to move. It is so wide and fast here and you are just on the floor for so long.”
Decker followed up with a 15.579 for the quick time for the Saturday events.
He too understands the importance of quick time as he explained, “Time trials are just so important here. This is a tough place and an especially fast track.”
Talking about the fast time he said, “This is a product of showing up ready.”
In a season that he calls “the worst year in 25 years” Decker is off to a fast start at the World Finals presented by Can-Am.
