ESS Set to Invade Woodhull Saturday

 By Kenny Shupp JR.

WOODHULL, NY- For the first time since 2008 the Empire Super Sprints will make a return to the high banks of the Woodhull Raceway.

Cory Sparks was the last competitor to visit Woodhull’s victory lane on July 12, 2008 when he added his name to a who’s who list of drivers that won an A-Main event at the popular Steuben County New York facility.

Former Series Champions, Malcolm Lane and Steve Poirier have won at Woodhull along with Tom Taber, Bobby Parrow, Tim Kelly Bill Coffey and Bill Peri.  George Suprick is the only driver to win more than one 360 ESS show at Woodhull as he claimed two checkers during his career.

The return of the Empire Super Sprints at Woodhull means a huge car count as Freedom Raceway will host the series the night prior on Friday, July 14, 2023.

According to Woodhull Raceway owners and promoters, Terry and Niki Brewer, “When we put the schedule together for the 2023 season we collaborated very closely with representatives of both ESS and Bob Reis of Freedom Raceway to bring the popular 360 Sprint Touring Series to this region.  By having them race at Freedom and then come to Woodhull the next night will mean that more teams will make the trek to the Southern Tier of NY.”

With the two tracks just 75 miles apart and less than a two-hour drive, many teams will come to the area and compete in the two-night affair.

Also, on the card for the July 15 event at Woodhull it will be a Regular Great 8 Show featuring all the weekly classes including the Insinger Performance Modifieds, the NAPA 602 Crate Sportsman along with the Doug Gross Construction RUSH Crate Late Models.  In addition, seeing action will be the Southern Tier Customs Street Stocks, the KMD Excavation Hobby Stocks and a trio of Wicked Tee’s Sponsored Classes in the Mini, FWD and Youth Warriors.

If that is not enough there will also be a King of the Bull Ring one-on-one single elimination event for the Southern Tier Customs Street Stock Division.

In short, it will be one heck of a lot of racing for the low, low Adult General Admission Ticket price of just $18.

Pit gates open at 3:30 pm with grandstand gates swinging one hour later at 4:30 pm.

A trio of marketing partners will team up to sponsor the July 15 Woodhull Raceway event including Hometown Excavation of Addison as Brett Tuscany and his crew will return to Woodhull as a nightly event sponsor with 2023 marking the third consecutive year Hometown has been at the track.
