Godown Looking Forward to USAC “Eastern Storm” Swing – DTD Exclusive

The USAC “Eastern Storm” march through our area is upon us. This is the week many race fans mark on their calendars and look forward to attending each and every year. It’s the week the best of the best in the USAC sprint division descend upon our area for a week of slide jobs and great racing. Some local fans even plan their vacations around the “Eastern Storm” so they can attend all of the six events.

Drivers like Brady Bacon, Tyler Courtney, Trevor Kobalarz, Dave Darland, Ryan Godown and many more will provide us with a week of thrills as they stampede their way through Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Stop, wait a minute! How did the name Ryan Godown get into that sentence?

Yes, standout Modified driver Ryan Godown, affectionately known as the “Ringoes Rocket” will be making his debut in USAC 410 Wingless Sprint division tomorrow night at the Grandview Speedway. For Godown it is a dream come true and something he has been working towards now for a couple of years.

“I am just excited to be running this group of races as they have always been on my bucket list” mentioned Godown. “It’s a great series of races to be a part of.”

Godown will compete in four of the six “Eastern Storm” events Grandview, BAPS Motor Speedway, Bridgeport and Weedsport. Godown will be forced to miss the events at Williams Grove and Port Royal due to his Modified commitments.

The No. 3 car that Godown will run in the 410 division is owned by Mick Wasitowski with help from Karl Freyer. Freyer is the owner of the #4F wingless 360 car that Godown runs in the USAC Eastern Sprint division. It was just over two weeks ago that Godown won in only his second race in that division at his home track of Big Diamond Speedway.

“Mick and Karl have put a lot of time and effort into this deal” explained Godown. “They’ve actually put a lot of hard work into both the 360 and 410 to get them ready for me to race. I’ve been anxiously waiting for this week to come since Mick and Karl put this deal together.  I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity. The primary car will be Mick’s car but in case we have problems with Mick’s car, we will have Karl’s car there as well to use as a backup.”

It will certainly be a busy week upcoming for Godown starting this Thursday night at Grandview with seven consecutive nights of racing planned at seven different tracks located in three different states.

6/14 – Grandview Speedway (USAC Sprint and Searock #26 Modified)
6/15 – Big Diamond Speedway (Searock #26 Modified)
6/16 – New Egypt Speedway (Petruska #66 Modified)
6/17 – BAPS Motor Speedway (USAC Sprint)
6/18 – Bridgeport Speedway (USAC Sprint)
6/19 – Weedsport Speedway (USAC Sprint)
6/20 – Outlaw Speedway STSS (Searock #26 Modified)

Godown certainly has a lot on his plate this week not mention having to make his USAC 410 Sprint debut against the caliber of drivers that permeate that division.

“I know I have my work cut out for me this week running against these guys but if we can qualify and run competitive I’ll be happy,” cited Godown. “All of the owners have done so much for me this year and I just want to give them my best effort every time I race. I really want to get Diane and Steve Searock into victory lane along with the Petruska’s. We’ve been fast all year in both cars but just haven’t been able to put that perfect race together yet.”

It will be an interesting week for Godown having to jump between different types of cars but tomorrow night is the only night where he will be running two divisions on the same night. Being able to concentrate only one style of car should help the Ringoes, N.J., driver out tremendously.

Sponsors for the ambitious effort are TMI Disposal, Vahlco Wheels, SCS Gears, VP Race Fuels, Strober-Wright Roofing, Searock Speed Supplies and Ellery’s Bar and Grill along with Atlas Paving.
