BREWERTON, NY – iRacing is the new norm as everyone looks for something to do to pass the time while following government guidelines for the current COVID-19 crisis.
With that in mind, Dirt Track Digest and Dirt Track Digest TV are ready to bring race fans three nights of simulated iRacing action in the Lockdown Showdown presented by SprintCarUnlimited.com.
Beginning on Thursday, April 9, 60 drivers, including 50 iRacers and 10 invited drivers, will attempt to qualify for Saturday night’s 410 Sprint Car Lockdown Showdown presented by SprintCarUnlimited.com at the Knoxville Raceway. In a format that implements the Knoxville Nationals points system, drivers will time-trial, heat race and run an A, B or C-Main looking to acquire enough points to lock them in Saturday night’s program. A driver can go perfect with a 500 point night; 200 for time trials, 100 for a heat win and another 200 up for grabs in the 25-lap A-Main.
On Friday night, April 10, 60 different drivers will go at it with 10 different invited drivers along with 50 of their fellow iRacers doing their part to accumulate points for the main program on Saturday. Like Thursday, drivers will score points every time they hit the track looking to total up enough to make the show on Saturday evening.
Points each night will be tabulated and combined after the Friday program with the top 50 in points from the iRacers registered and minimum of the top 10 in points for the invited drivers moving on to Saturday’s finale. In the event of a tie in points, a driver’s best time trial lap will be used as the tiebreaker.
Saturday features a full program with time-trials, heats as well as a D, C, B-Mains with the finale the Dirt Track Digest Lockdown Showdown presented by SprintCarUnlimited.com 35-lap A-Main. The total purse for the event is $500 with the winner picking up $175. Second earns $125 with third scoring $90. Fourth place takes home $60 while fifth picks up $50. There also a $50 bonus for the highest finishing invited driver in the group. More contingency awards will be announced as well.
The entire program will be broadcast live through the Dirt Track Digest Facebook page with racing beginning at 8pm on Thursday, Friday with the Saturday night program starting at 7pm. The feed features a Dirt Track Digest TV Xtra format with live scoring and in race commentating from Northeast announcers Shane Andrews and Mike Mallett.
iRacers looking to register can email dtdiracing@gmail.com. THE FIRST 100 EMAILS RECEIVED will be registered for the event. Drivers are asked to include their name, hometown, car number and two sponsors for the announcers on the call. Dirt Track Digest is currently lining up Northeast professional race car drivers to compete in the event. A full list will be released in the coming days.
Once all entries are received, drivers will be split into two groups based on their known ability or iRating. Our goal is to evenly split the field for the Thursday and Friday night qualifiers.
