BREWERTON, NY – It took just over 24 hours to fill the 100 spots open to iRacers for the Dirt Track Digest Lockdown Showdown presented by SprintCarUnlimited.com to fill up.
Dirt Track Digest officials sorted through the entries splitting the field into two, 50 car qualifying nights for the event. These groups are balanced based on a drivers iRacing rating as well as their known accomplishments in the simulation. These drivers will be joined by several Northeast/invited hot shoes who will have their qualifying night’s revealed tomorrow afternoon.
Headlining the Thursday night qualifying field is the current virtual Knoxville Raceway track record holder Craig Dunn, of Maryborough, Queensland, Australia. Dunn turned a lap of 14.850 around the half-mile speedway to set the world record.
On Friday night, the biggest name in iRacing, Alex Bergeron hits the track. Bergeron is the defending NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Cars iRacing Series champion. His win percentage is unmatched in iRacing as the Quebec native wins approximately 60 percent of the races he enters.
Each night features drivers from the pro series level to rookies. It will be a battle to see who can secure enough points to make it to the final 60 for Saturday night’s feature program which will include a minimum of 10 of our Northeast regulars.
The format for the race implements the Knoxville Nationals points system, drivers will time-trial, heat race and run an A, B or C-Main looking to acquire enough points to lock them into Saturday night’s program. A perfect night would mean a driver scores 500 points. They’d earn 200 for setting fast-time time trials, 100 points for a heat race win and another 200 points for winning the DIG Race Products 25-lap A-Main.
Saturday night is another full program with time-trials, heats as well as a D, C, B-Mains with the finale the Dirt Track Digest Lockdown Showdown presented by SprintCarUnlimited.com 35-lap A-Main. For this program, the points got you in, but they don’t help here. It all about the racing.
The total purse for the event A-Main is $500 with the winner picking up $175. Second earns $125 with third scoring $90. Fourth place takes home $60 while fifth picks up $50. There have been several contingency prizes added as well allowing for over $800 to be paid out.
All three nights will be broadcast via the Dirt Track Digest Facebook page for FREE. Thursday and Friday action begins at 8 p.m. while Saturday’s racing starts at 7 p.m.
Stay tuned to DirtTrackDigest.com and Facebook page for the latest developments for the first ever Lockdown Showdown. Check out SprintCarUnlimited.com for the latest news from the world of Sprint Car racing.
