Three Races in Eight Nights Shape FMP Championship Hopes

KIRKWOOD, NY – The racing has been outstanding all season long at Five Mile Point Speedway but now the intensity is about to increase as the speedway plays host to three race events in the next eight days. Tonight is a full program of racing including Kiddie Rides. Kiddie Rides begin at 5:45 p.m. with racing set to go green at 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Tyler Siri leads the way in the Modified division entering tonight’s action at the quarter mile oval. Siri, has yet to garner a win this season but has come from deep in the field week after week. The division has seen a remarkable seven different feature winners in seven races this season. Last year there was an unbelievable thirteen different Modified feature winners out of fourteen events.

Siri leads the standings over Kevin Bates and Nick Rochinski currently. Both of those drivers have feature wins and have been extremely fast all season long. Mike Colsten currently sits in fourth place in the standings with one feature win. The ageless Colsten also leads the Sunday Summer Slam Modified points entering next Sunday’s $4,000 to win 30 lap event. Last year’s Summer Slam Co-Champion Brad Szulewski is currently fifth without a feature win this season.

The racing action continues this Wednesday night as the balance of the originally scheduled July 1st show will be completed. Modified heat races remain along with Slingshot heat races and then it will be all feature events. Rain checks from July 1st will be honored on that evening for both the pits and grandstand area.

The speedway roars back in to action next Sunday, July 16th with race number 2 of the Sunday Summer Slam. Shakelton NAPA Auto & Truck Parts and Tonarlo’s Restaurant have added extra incentives for the Modified 30 lapper to make it a whopping $4,000 to win. The race is a draw – re/draw format and all weekly teams will receive 25 show up points along with the separate Summer Slam Points.

Entering this evening Matt Cole continues to lead the Crate Sportsman point race in his rookie season in the division. Cole is a three-time IMCA Modified Track Champion. Shane Wolf, Jr. is the current Street Stock point leader. Nick Kennedy is the Lightning Cat Expert point leader entering tonight’s action with Eric Beach (Factory Stock), Randy Lane (Lightning Cat Novice) and Dalton Maynard (Slingshots) leading their respective classes.
