Five Mile point to Honor Mike Colsten on Tuesday Night, June 21

KIRKWOOD, NY – Five Mile Point Speedway will honor the memory of legendary driver Mike Colsten this Tuesday, June 21st. The Mike Colsten Remembered 51 will honor the all-time Five Mile Point Speedway great. The Modified race will be 51 laps commemorating the number that he raced his entire career and will pay a minimum of $3,000 to win. There has also been over $3,000 in bonus lap money put together for the race. Racing begins at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The race will also be broadcast exclusively on

The race, which was twice postponed in 2021 was first held in 2020. That season saw the event held without spectators being permitted to attend during the global pandemic. Stewart Friesen bested the talented field in that first race honoring the legendary Colsten. Last year the race was first postponed due to the ongoing race car tire shortage and the second time due to weather. Both teams and fans are excited to see the race finally being contested again on Tuesday. Mike’s son, Joey Colsten is a weekly Modified competitor at the speedway and will certainly want to win this special event.

Colsten was one of the winningest and most popular drivers of all time at Five Mile Point Speedway over his legendary career. On the track he raced to over one hundred feature wins and five Modified Track Championships. Colsten was also a Late Model Track Champion and captured big Modified wins in the Southern Tier 100 in 1993 and won the Southern Tier Open in 2001 and 2008 and was a four-time Heath Memorial race winner. He was also one of the original All-Time 50 Greatest Drivers at Five Mile Point Speedway as announced back in 2000.

Mike Colsten held the nicknames “The Recycler” and “Mr. Ford Power” as the majority of his racing career he utilized Ford powered Modifieds to success. He seemed to have a leg up on the competition when it came to opening day at Five Mile Point Speedway with six opening day Modified victories. His last win came on opening day April 9, 2017. Colsten, passed away in January of 2020.

Over $3,000 in lap sponsorships have been put together with the majority of the 51 laps having bonus money posted of at least $51. Drivers running in the top five positions on each lap will be randomly drawn to collect the bonus laps. Lap 26, the halfway point of the race will have big significance as Signworks Custom Fleet Graphics has posted $500 to the leader of that lap and Dale and Sue Smith posted an additional $151 for the leader of that lap as well.

In addition, the race winner will have the opportunity to select a guaranteed starting spot in either the The Fonda 200 at Fonda Speedway on September 15-17 or the New Yorker 50 at Utica Rome Speedway on September 4th. The Fonda 200 starting spot is worth $1,000 with the New Yorker guaranteed spot worth $500. The race winner on Tuesday has their choice of which spot they take with the second place finisher receiving the second spot.

Joining the Modifieds will be the GRIT Crate Sportsman with a 25 lap event paying $1,400 to win. The GRIT Series 600 Modifieds plus the FWD Four Cylinder Fantastic Five Race Number 2.
