KIRKWOOD, NY – Nick Rochinski started on the outside of the front row and led all 51 laps on Tuesday night to win the Mike Colsten Remembered 51 at the Five Mile Point Speedway.
Justin Holland and Rochinski led the 25 car starting field to the green flag, but it was Rochinski who got the jump using the outside lane to power to the lead by the time the two reached turns 1 and 2.
The first yellow of the race would fly on lap 5 when Danny Tyler got too high in turns 1 and 2 and made heavy contact with the foam blocks in turns one and two.
When the race restarted, Rochinksi jumped out to the lead, but behind him, it was Danny Creeden making moves, sliding into the 2nd position past Holland.
Holland found his way back by the 16x of Creeden while at the same time, nineth place starter Frank Cozze worked his way into the top five as he passed Dillon Steuer as the field completed lap 7.
Unfortunately for Cozze his climb to the front suffered a setback when the 410 slowed in turns 3 and 4 with a flat right rear tire.
When the race restarted it was Rochinksi who again powered to the front and he had built up a sizeable lead, starting to close in on lapped traffic when the yellow flew again for Jerry Higbie who slowed on the backstretch.
With 5 laps to go Justin Holland had closed the gap on Rochinski as the two worked their way through lapped traffic, and it looked like Holland was going to take the 280 machine to the bottom of the speedway to try and make a move on the race leader with just a few laps to go, but the yellow would again fly, this time for the 2RS of Alex Yankowski, who slowed in turns 2.
With only 1 lap remaining and a clear racetrack, Rochinski went unchallenged over the races final lap to take the win and the $3,000 payday that came along with it. With all the lap money that was available his winnings total over $6,000.
Justin Holland finished in the runner up position with Danny Johnson rounding out the podium.
