Arbuthnot, McLaughlin, Dunn and Bellinger Lock Into Outlaw 200 With Victories – DTD Exclusive

FULTON, NY – Ryan Arbuthnot, Max McLaughlin, Billy Dunn and Rob Bellinger each picked up 15 lap Modified Qualifier victories on Friday night and locked themselves into the Outlaw 200 with starting spots 17 through 20.

Four 15-lap Modified dashes were held, with the winner of each guaranteed to start from position 17, 18, 19, or 20 in the Outlaw 200. Ryan Arbuthnot ran away in hid in the first dash, opening up a full straightaway lead by halfway and taking the win over a distant Pat Ward. Max McLaughlin grabbed the lead from Roy Bresnahan early in the second dash, taking the checkered over Larry Wight to guarantee his first start in the Outlaw 200.

Billy Dunn took control of the third dash at the drop of the green, driving off into the sunset to win over Stewart Friesen. In the fourth dash, Rob Bellinger got by Brian Murphy on lap eight and held off Todd Root to be the only dash winner driving a 358.

Jim Johnson led early in the 50-lap Late Model main, holding off Chad Homan and a host of others. Homan eventually grabbed the top spot on lap 13, then Charlie Sandercock followed through for second soon after. From there, Sandercock went after Homan, working over Homan’s back bumper lap after lap. However, Sandercock just couldn’t get by and a caution at halfway gave Homan a breather from the pressure.

When racing resumed, Sandercock and Homan went back to battle. With Homan low and Sandercock high, the pair were rarely separated by more than a car length. At times, Sandercock even gave Homan a bumpdraft down the straightaway, but couldn’t get enough of a run to draw even. As the laps ticked away, Homan continued to lead, even opening up a small gap through traffic before a lap 36 yellow.

On the restart, Sandercock finally got the launch of his dreams and snatched the lead from Homan. Initially, Sandercock pulled on Homan and opened up a one second lead, but with five laps to go, Homan began reeling him in. As the white flag waived, Homan had drawn to within a car length, but it was too little and too late, as Charlie Sandercock rolled to the Outlaw 200 Late Model win for the third year in a row. Chad Homan crossed in second, followed by Dale Caswell, Jason Parkhurst, and Kevan Cook.

Sandercock’s victory lane celebration wasn’t quite as wild as usual, thanks to his win last weekend. Due to a lack of a functional right foot, Sandercock’s ride was outfitted with a hand throttle.

“I broke my ankle in victory lane last weekend,” Sandercock said. “I climbed the catchfence and dropped down, landed right in a pothole and broke it. But, they’re bringing me a check, so there’s nothing to be embarrassed about.”

Tracy Fritter held off Doug Williams and company for much of the Mod-Lite feature, but on a restart with five laps left, Williams took off like a rocket and stole the lead and win away. Michael Wagner-Fitzgerald fended off the late challenges of Richard Murtaugh for the Novice Sportsman checkered, while Chris Bonoffski dominated the 4-Cylinder main.
