BATAVIA, NY – The latest opening day in Genesee Speedway is arguably the most anticipated start to any race season in Batavia.
Starting today, June 1, New York State will auto racing to resume, with the absence of fans for the time being. To get things started, Genesee Speedway will be hosting a two-part practice session this Saturday, June 6 to get the rust knocked off both the race cars and the 1/3-mile oval.
Two practice sessions will be held to split the field intending to get some laps on their race cars and provide social distancing. The first group will hit the dirt from 1-4pm while the second group will run from 5-8pm. Groups have already been assigned and those interested in attending that have not already reserved a spot are encouraged to email GeneseeSpeedway@gmail.com.
Once the practice session completes, the focus will shift to a special midweek show like never before. The 2020 season will officially kick off with a Thursday Thriller. The Thursday, June 11 event will feature all the returning divisions getting organized and racing in a non-points format. While points may not be on the line, the money sure is as promoters Jim and Pam Johnson are going to have a full payout provided to race teams!
This year’s division slate is headlined by the RUSH Late Models, this year sponsored by Cornerstone Eye Associates, who moves over from the Sportsman division. The Sportsman are once again under the DIRTcar banner in 2020 and will be sponsored by key supporter Stirling Lubricants. Yasses Construction returns for the fifth straight year to sponsor the Street Stocks, as does Pellegrino Auto Sales to the Mini Stocks and DML Sealing to the Bandits. The newly-formed Novice Sportsman class will not start at this first event.
The June 11 event will start at 7:00 p.m. and though it will not allow fans in the stands, will be available to view online for the first time ever. DirtTrackDigest.TV will be the broadcast site, with years of experience streaming race action across the United States and Canada. The June 11 event will be just $20 for the entire family to enjoy from the comfort of your own home.
The schedule the rest of June is still to be determined as some adjustments may need to be made, including the June 19 World of Outlaws Late Models event which may require fans to be run.
Pit gates for the June 11 event will be opening at 5:00 p.m. Pit admission will be $35. As a reminder Transponders will be mandatory as will radios. For more information, visit www.Genesee-Speedway.com or visit the Genesee Speedway Facebook page.
