Calabrese & Horning Victorious On Opening Day At The Ridge

FULTONVILLE, NY – The Glen Ridge Motorsports Park kicked off their 2022 racing season Sunday afternoon with a fast paced, exciting show. When all was said and done eight different drivers stood in victory lane in front of the excited crowd.

The Red Chair DIRTcar Sportsman division kicked off the new season with their weekly 30 lap event. Picking up the win was Brian Calabrese. Calabrese would take the lead early and never look back in the non-stop, caution free feature event.

Alan Fink would follow the Johnstown driver across the line with Cody Ochs third, Garrett Poland fourth and defending Cherko Fusco Realty Limited Sportsman Track Champion Zach Buff fifth. Heat races were won by Fink and Calabrese.

Luke Horning came into the 2022 season at The Ridge looking for his fifth Yurkewecz Auto Crushers DIRTcar Sportsman Division Track Championship. When all was said and done Sunday night, the Gloversville pilot took a giant leap towards that goal by claiming the 15-lap feature win.

Andy Graves battled Horning early for the lead however Horning’s number 2H was just too much, forcing Graves to settle for second in the final rundown. Adam Tranka crossed the line third with Doug Sheely fourth and Matt Mosher fifth. Tranka was the first Street Stock across the line. The heat race was won by Horning, with defending Street Stock Track Champion Matt Mosher the first Street Stock across the line.

Mike Hill won the 20 lap Cherko Fusco Realty Limited Sportsman feature event. Hill took over the top spot when Glen Ridge Motorsports Park Hall of Fame member Butchie Irwin dropped from the event on lap four. Once out front the three-time Northeast Paving & Sealcoating All-Star Slingshot Division Track Champion was not to be denied and cruised home for the win.

Jim Duncan finished second after being disqualified following his apparent heat race win for an illegal Rev Box. Wesley Sutliff finished third, Frank Twing, Jr., fourth and Lucas Duncan fifth. The heat race was claimed by Hill.

Other feature winners during the night were Jay Ingersoll (Single Cam) and Billy Hillman (Dual Cam) in the DIRTcar Mini-Stock divisions and Dan Ballard (All-Star) and Bodie Marks (Junior) Northeast Paving and Sealcoating Slingshot divisions.
