50 lap Jerry Winger Memorial, Wall of Fame & Dedication to Racing Inductions, Vintage Race Cars and more celebration 67 Seasons on Tim Hortons Night

THOROLD, ONT – For more than 50 years, Tim Hortons has brewed a rich history and has grown to serve nearly eight out of ten coffees sold in Canada.

For more than 67 years, Merrittville Speedway has been brewing a rich racing history and will celebrate Nostalgia Night 2018 Saturday August 4th.

“Growing up in the sport … I always look forward to Reunion Night and it was unfortunate that we couldn’t host it a few weeks back with our friends from Cotton Inc,” said former Pro Stock Champion and current Merrittville Speedway Owner Don Spiece, “for today’s fans … you’ll get a look of how racing was back in the day with the Thunder on the Dirt Series Vintage Race Cars on display and on the track … long time fans can also visit with many of their favorite drivers from the past as well.”

Tim Hortons is set to help Merrittville Speedway’s Reunion Committee celebrate 67 seasons of Saturday Night Racing with the Annual Nostalgia Night with the S&W Service Centre 358 Modifieds will be featured once again in the 50 lap Jerry Winger Memorial.

“We are looking forward to catching up with our Alumni and old friends,” added Reunion Committee Chairman Rick Kavanagh, “race fans looking to take a look back at the memories they have of local racing or newer fans looking to learn about the history of the sport are encouraged to check out the recently launched Face Book page.”

Merrittville Memories by the Reunion Committee can be found at https://www.facebook.com/MerrittvilleMemories/

The Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series program will also feature the David Chevrolet Sportsman, Vansickle Pet Valu & Groomingdale’s Modified Lites and Dave’s Auto & Speed V6 Divisions in addition to Vintage Race Cars.

The Jerry Winger Memorial dates back to the 1959 Season when it was established after an up and coming racer and Point Champion Jerry Winger passed away due to illness.

George Winger was the first winner and in the modern era of the annual award – former winners Pete Bicknell, Chad Brachmann, Mike Bowman are all winners to date in 2018. Bowman in fact has won the last two 35 lap Features and would like to make a third straight win his third career Winger Memorial Win.

Brachmann is the defending Race Winner and has won the Nostalgia Night Main Event three times over his career.

A huge part of the night is all the reminiscing that takes place in celebration of the track’s now 67 consecutive seasons. The Drivers of the past enjoy meeting with the fans of today – many that can remember the early days of the sport. Just as drivers today can be second or third generation, so too are some fans.

Race fans will want to stop by Honker’s Turn 1 Bar to check out the display of memorabilia from the collection of Reunion Committee Chairman Rick Kavanagh in addition to checking out the Vintage Race Cars on display alongside some of the second, third and fourth generation race cars of today’s era.

Just before race time at 7 PM, the 2018 Inductees into the CAA Niagara Wall of Fame will take place on the front stretch atop the CAA Stage at the start finish line. 2 Auto FX Graphics creations will honor the newest inductees Barry Davidson and Steve DeVos in addition to the CAA Niagara Dedication to Racing Honorees.
