Ketch Takes Tri-City Vintage Mod Main

FRANKLIN, PA- The CarSmile Wiper Blades Thunder on the Dirt Vintage Series joined the big block modifieds, 305 Racesaver sprints, ULMS e-mods, and RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, on Mother’s Day for opening night at Tri-City Raceway Park.

Nine vintage car signed in pit side for the nights racing action. This included then new young-gun, rookie sportsman driver, Owen Zimmer in the number 62 coach. Zimmer is graduating from go-karts to try his hand at vintage modified racing. Also making his debut in a vintage car, was none other than Tri-City Raceway Park owner and late model veteran Mark Tatalovic, in the former gremlin car of Les Myers. Chris Ketch was back behind the wheel of his 85ny Mudbuss and Al Byerly returned to piloting duties of his 47b big-block coupe.

Tri-City Hall of Famer Les “The Reno Rocket” Myers and Jim St. John Memorial feature winner Kevin “Marble” Mahoney set the front row for the modified heat race. After 6 laps on a very rough track, it was Les Myers for the win followed right on his heels by Chris Ketch. Dan Osmer and Jeffry Mitchell started the sportsman feature in their screaming 6 cylinders, but at the line it was David Myers with a flat right rear tire, for the heat win.

Come feature time it was the 32 of Mark Tatalovic and 85ny of Chris Ketch leading the field to the green flag. Ketch took the lead in turn two when Tatalovic pushed high and managed to get underneath him. Chris Ketch managed to lead the entire race despite constant pressure from Les Myers. Dealing with lap traffic on the last lap Myers and Ketch made contact but it was the 85ny of Ketch that crossed the stripe first over Tri-City favorite Les Myers. Dan Osmer in his 6 cylinder took advantage of the rough and single lane track conditions to hold off David Myers in his V-8 for several laps, until electrical problems ended his run for the win. David Myers took the sportsman feature win and Owen Zimmer brought his coach home 2nd in his first vintage feature.

Once again, the vintage cars went green to checkered with no on track incidents, and put on the best show of the night for the great fans at Tri-City Raceway Park. The vintage cars will return to Tri-City July 23 to support the Tony Stewart All-Star Sprint Car tour. The next stop on The CarSmile Wiper Blades Thunder on the Dirt Vintage Series is at the New Stateline Speedway in Jamestown, NY on June 24th.
