Independence Day ’50’ Kicks Off The Month of July at Mohawk

By TIM BALTZ

It’s been one of the worst weather season’s in recent memory and as of late Mother Nature has been none to kind to the drivers, staff and fans of Mohawk International Raceway. This weekend, however, will provide fans with something to talk about and hopefully that dreaded “R” word is not the hot topic.

The Unique Ecigs 358 Modified Series will finally get underway with the first event of 2017, the Independence Day ’50’. The series originally scheduled to kick off on Memorial Day weekend will be ready for action this coming weekend and with 3 straight weeks of rain, drivers will be more than itching to try and score that first series win of the year.

5 time and defending track champion Billy Dunn is a 4 time series champion and is the 3 time and defending race winner. Dunn will look to add a 4th win in 5 tries but Tim Fuller, who won this event in 2015 will be a threat for the Independence Day classic. The Edwards, New York native will look to add to his 2 wins already in 2017 but don’t be surprised if drivers like Brian McDonald, Carey Terrance and Chris Raabe, who are all former track champions and past race winners, end up in victory lane. Jordan McCreadie, Corey Wheeler and Danny Johnson will also be among the top runners who will challenge the past winners and champions for their first Independence Day win and also their first Unique Ecigs Series triumph.
