Woodhull Preps Honoring Alice Mod Special

By Kenny Shupp Jr.

WOODHULL, NY-The highest paying non-sanctioned Modified event in the 57- year history of the Woodhull Raceway is set for Saturday, August 6,2022 at the popular Steuben County oval.

The Honoring Alice Night, named in memory of the First Lady of the Woodhull Raceway, Alice Williams will be a biggie for the Insinger Performance Modifieds with some $5,500 up for grabs to win the 50-lap feature event.

With the track not hosting any sanctioned Modified touring groups in 2022, the ownership wanted to put on their own special event paying a purse like that of the major touring groups around the northeast.

“We wanted to do something really big for the Modifieds at Woodhull this year, stated Woodhull Raceway owner, Niki Brewer.  The Insinger Modifieds are our premier division as they have been at this track for decades. They pull a lot of cars into this speedway and the competition is usually exceptionally good. We are proud of our Modified competitors like we are of all the drivers that compete here, but we wanted to put up some huge money for which the Modifieds can compete.  We did not bring in a sanctioning body this year to promote a Modified special, rather we are keeping all the money including sanction fees for our track regulars and outsiders that may want to come in and compete.”

Several top name drivers have been in contact with the Woodhull Raceway expressing interest in the Honoring Alice, August 6, 2022 show, however at this point it is difficult to predict who may come as several competitors are locked into point battles at Saturday night venues which they regularly compete.  However, the $5,500 and $400 to start is creating a lot of buzz!

In addition to the 50 lap Insinger Modified Special it will be a regular show including all of Woodhull’s weekly classes including the NAPA Crate Sportsman, Armstrong RUSH Crate Late Models, Joe Willcox Performance Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Wicked Tee’s sponsored Mini Stocks and Warriors along with the Front Wheel Drives.

The Modified procedure for the event will be draw/re-draw with all Woodhull Raceway Modified regulars receiving show up points for the night.

Pit gates for the August 6 show open at 3:30 pm. Grandstand gates to follow one hour later with the traditional Early Bird 1 Hour Special for those entering the grandstand seating area.
