Woodhull Remembers George Williams

By Kenny Shupp Jr.

WOODHULL, NY-The Elkland Moose, Main Street in downtown Elkland, Pa will welcome fans and drivers to the Annual George Williams Memorial at the Woodhull Raceway on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

The George Williams Memorial has been a traditional event at the historic Steuben County Facility for decades.  Ole’ George as he was referred to was the original designer and promoter of the track.  He  along with his two sons, Jim and Bob carved the high banked one-third of a mile clay oval out of family owned farm land.

At the time when most others were retiring, Williams was just getting started as he was in his mid-60’s when he opened the gates.  From there Ole’ George was one of the most recognizable faces at many dirt track venues that he frequented and when he passed away, Williams left behind a legacy that will not be duplicated.

On the card for the May 27 event, the Insinger Performance Modifieds will run a special 30 feature where the winner will receive a nice $2,500 paycheck.

Also, in action it will be the NAPA Crate Sportsman, The Doug Gross Construction RUSH Crate Late Models and the Southern Tier Customs Street Stocks.

Rounding out the night it will be the highly popular KMD Excavating Hobby Stocks as well as a trio of Wicked Tee’s sponsored divisions in the Mini Stocks, Front Wheel Drives and the Youth Warriors.
